Let me be, maybe not the first, but one of the many proud family members to congratulate the "Nevada Lightning 12U White Team"  on winning their first trophy after playing together for more than two years!

The girls not only took home a "Second Place" trophy while playing in the "Spring Fever"  Cal/Nevada Girls Fast-pitch Tournament this past weekend, they were also very privileged at being the first group of girls to play in a "Youth Tournament" at the new Golden Eagle Regional Park in Sparks, Nevada.

The Golden Eagle Regional Park recently opened its $30 million sports complex in Sparks, Nevada and the girls were among the first to play on it. It truly is an amazing sight. The 140-acre complex includes six softball, two baseball, two youth baseball/softball and three multi-purpose football/soccer fields, all covered with artificial turf.

There are 1.4 million square feet of artificial turf! Probably the largest artificial turf project in the world. There are rumors that this fact may even be confirmed in the Guinness Book of World Records!

This is probably one of the most exciting things that has hit Sparks in a long time. There are thousands of local adult and youth sports players in this area alone who will be utilizing these fields. I have been told that these fields have already been booked with tournaments throughout the summer. Most of them out of town teams.

I would like to end my story with a special "Congratulations" to my beautiful and very talented niece, Amanda Leighton, #5, for doing such a great job this weekend. Amanda went 15 for 17 and hit 2 triples on Sunday. Well done Noelle! I love you. A special thank you should go to her dad, Tim Leighton, for coaching the girls and doing such an awesome job.

Teri - Thank yo so much for your time. It is cold in the winter. Luckily most of the snow we get stays in the mountains and not down here. But, yes, we do get a bit of wind. July is the most exciting time with wind!! But the weather is not bad at all, 90's in the summer, 40's in the winter. Mild compared to Vegas and your summers I assume!  Thanks          Terrie
