Carl Dean
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy.
Carl was born in Paris, Illinois back in 1927 to George and Gladys. The family was on a trip visiting family in California when they went to Hal Roach Studios. They went to the public cafeteria where he began to give an impromptu performance. It just so happened that Hal Roach was present and he hired Carl on the spot.
Although he was an experienced singer and musician he was often called upon to sing off-key to keep with the character he was playing. His career playing that role came to an end in 1940, just short of his 13th birthday. He appeared in various “B” rated movies but never starred in a role again. He raised hunting dogs and guided hunting expeditions. Some of his clients were Dale Evans, Roy Rogers, James Stewart and Henry Fonda. If you haven’t figured it out by now I ‘m writing about Carl Deans Switzer AKA,” Alfalfa” who played the icon in “Our Gang".
