The first step to greatness begins with a total commitment. We often find ourselves with a new challenge, obstacle, relationship, opportunity or goal and we try to figure out the best way to have success. Conventional wisdom says be careful, watch out, you've been hurt before, this could disappoint you. As a result we hesitate, wait, wait, measure twice... and then hopefully the timing will be right.
The challenge is the world doesn't reward the timid. It rewards the COMMITTED!
If I'm working with a new client I can take the approach: Will they show up? Could this be a wasted effort? Will this even be profitable? What if they leave me down the road? Legitimate questions? Our lizard brain survival mode is powerful... but wrong.
The reality is the FIRST step to greatness begins with a TOTAL COMMITMENT!
Not the second, third, or fourth step... the FIRST. I've heard it all:
- "You don't understand my situation..."
- "If he/she would just do ABC, then I would..."
- "I'll wait to see what happens and then..."
- "I'll stick my toe in the water and if it feels good, then I'll..."
While these comments seem very rational, they lead to mediocrity... and God didn't make us to be mediocre. We were made for GREATNESS.
Gary Vaynerchuk wrote a book called Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook. It's about giving first. Provide value, value, value before you ask for anything.
