I guess all that stuff about Ben Kinney turned out to be....

I typed my first blog in 2008 and have been hanging around ever since. AR has literally changed my real estate life. To be truthful, it helped kick my career in the pants that started in 2004. So much has happened in my life since my first blog post...as our listings say.. "Too Many Upgrades To Mention."

We humans can't help but fear what we don't understand. It's a fact. I also resonate a lot with this saying:
"In the absence of information, we jump to the worst conclusions." - Myra Kassim.

It's true. When we heard Ben was buying (some called it a hostile takeover) AR many assumed the worst. He was all but demonized as the opportunistic guru from KW who was going to find a way to have us all getting shitfaced on "the kool-aid."

Well.... that hasn't happened.  Not unless he's injecting subliminal messages. Or something.

I've met Ken, and my first impression was that he was a run of the mill guru who was flying around the country making $ off of Realtors. I didn't have a favorable opinion of his personality. But I have a tremendous about of respect for Bob Stewart and well, if he's a friend of Bob, then he needs to be someone I take seriously if he's running the show here at AR.

The difference between "the old AR" and the "new AR" is that Ben is not intimately involved with blog posts, comments and all that jazz. Perhaps he's just too damn busy. Maybe he's blocked me or something. I have no idea. Can you do that here?

I think it's fair to be unbiased in both slander and with praise. I despise Zillow, but give them a high five for revolutionizing the industry (even though I hate them) and doing what Realtor dot com failed to do. I don't think of Ben as Zillow, but I do see him as the guy who sits on top of KW. And good for him. We should all be able to learn something from him. I would SO let him buy me a drink.

I, for one, am grateful that he hasn't made the theme as KWish as everyone bet on. I never thought he would. You'd have to be a fool to waive your company flag to a community that's so incredibly diverse as AR.

Great work, Ben. As the saying in the Navy goes... Bravo Zulu! Thanks for keeping the site around and proving most of the haters wrong. At the end of the day I need, want and hope the very best for this industry website.

Because it's the best!

I never doubted that Active Rain would go down hill after I heard that Ben Kinney had bought out Zillow. Although, I have never met Ben personally, I have been amazed at what he has accomplished in real estate and business, and I knew that AR was in good hands with Ben and Bob Stewart back.

I am confident that AR will continue to be a great community for all of us who invest our time, talent, and efforts. Thanks Ben and Bob, and the rest of the staff for working behind the scenes to make our AR community better.

Active is a great blogging platform and I look forward to more improvements.  Often with change we think the best days are past, when in fact there is opportunity ahead!

Good morning Greg. I don't know Ben so I won't make an judgments. What he has done is put Bob back where he has made a difference.

AR still has a lot of supporters and fans. Time will tell if a A to A (agent) to (agent) model works. Agents prefer a customer to agent model.

It's nice to see your thoughts, Greg. I've been here 6 years and I have seen a huge volume of changes, some good and some not so good. I have high hopes that things will be as good as it once was. I'd love to see Kerrie back too.

Maybe you're saying, the absence of bad performance=good performance.

Or, maybe, you intend to damn with faint praise.

Or, maybe, you're inspired to equivocate.

Lots of head-scratching on this.....

I personally think he is sitting on a gold mine and waiting to hit pay dirt.

I have nothing but good words for the Ben and Bob partnership. I had my lost years but find myself around these parts a lot more since they turned the ship in the best direction.

I am happy Ben Kinney bought AR. And yes I think he is too busy to put much energy into it. But that's fine as he has an excellent staff at AR. I'm glad it's not owned by Trulia/Zillow. I dont want them involved in my real estste life.

Many of us share your sentiments here Greg Nino and had the same concern over KW Koolaid when Ben bought AR.  So happy that things are going well here in the Rain.

I am glad that Ben bought AR - it is nice to have someone who understands the community and is willing to support it - With so much going on in the world, and the sun still comes up every day, maybe we should apply the same sense of optimism to the future of AR
