Virginia-Highland Summerfest 2016, celebrating 33 Years of Art, Food & Fun, will be held on Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th, 2016. The annual Virginia-Highland Summerfest is set in the charming and historic Virginia-Highland neighborhood and is a celebration of community and the arts. The two-day event features dozens of juried artists and crafters displaying their unique works, a 5k fun run/walk and a tot trot for kids as well as live musical performances by emerging local artists and nationally touring acts.

Artist Market

  • Saturday, June 4 (10:00am-6:30pm)
  • Sunday, June 5 (10:00am to 6:00pm)

The juried Summerfest Artist Market is quickly becoming Atlanta’s premiere art show, specializing in fine, folk, and unique art. You can find original art in many price ranges and media, including: Painting, Photography, Clay, Metal, Stone, Wood, Jewelry, Glass, Textiles, and Mixed Media.

5K Road Race

This year’s Summerfest 5K Road Race will take place the morning of Saturday June 4th and will feature 1,500+ runners winding their way through the streets of Virginia-Highland. The race, which is now an official qualifying race for the Peachtree Road Race, features electronic chip timing and runners are encouraged to register for the race in advance. This race often closes out quickly, so we encourage early registration.

NEW! Participants who register for the Summerfest 5K Road Race on or before June 1st will automatically be eligible to win some amazing prizes. Four lucky runners will be chosen at random to receive $50 in “Artist Bucks” that can be used to purchase art at the Summerfest artist market and (10) lucky runners–21 years and older–will receive (2) tickets to the new Summerfest Margarita Tasting Event ($40 value). Tot Trot

After the 5K Road Race (starting around 9:15am), children ages 7 and under can run, waddle or crawl to the finish line of the Tot Trot which will be held this year on the lawn of the middle eastern section of John Howell Park (near Barnett). Every child receives a blue ribbon and a t-shirt for participating. Registration ($10 per child) is on-site, day-of-race, starting at around 8 AM on the grass inside John Howell Park between where the statuary is and Barnett St.

Kidsfest

For 2016 Kidsfest will be located in the western section of John Howell Park, in the area where the sand volleyball courts are. Kidsfest features unique games, crafts and activities for children of all ages, many of which are free. Times are Saturday, June 4, 2016 (10am to 3pm) and Sunday June 5, 2015 (10am to 3pm).

Food

Virginia-Highland Summerfest 2016 features a range of delicious food from an array of festival vendors and local restaurants. A variety of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are available throughout Summerfest.

Music Stages

Main Stage: Presented by Creative Loafing, the Virginia-Highland Summerfest 2016 Music Stage will feature a variety of renowned local musicians along with nationally acclaimed singer-songwriters. The Main Music Stage is located on the lawn of the eastern section of John Howell Park.

Acoustic Stage: Presented by AM 1690 and Newstalk 1160 radio, Francisco & Friends performers will play starting at 2pm Saturday, 6/4 and starting at 1pm Sunday, 6/5. The acoustic stage will also play host to young performers from our area. On Saturday, June 4, enjoy performers from Eclectic Music from Noon – 2:00pm. And on Sunday, June 5, see the Burke Connolly Academy Irish Dancers from Noon – 1:00pm.

Evening Street Party at Acoustic Stage
The Evening Street Party at the Acoustic Stage will be held near the Triangle Island at the intersection of Virginia and N. Highland Avenues on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 8:00pm to 10:45pm and on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 7:00pm to 10:45pm. Come on out to enjoy a variety of acoustic acts by “Francisco & Friends,” enjoy a tasty beverage and keep your Summerfest experience going.

Summerfest is the annual fundraiser for the Virginia-Highland Civic Association, Inc. (“VHCA”), a volunteer-run, non-profit organization that helps maintain Virginia-Highland as one of the most livable urban communities in America.
