As we approach Hurricane Season it is important for everyone to be prepared.
Most locals know the drills while vacationers may be caught unaware. Either way, a refresher is always a good thing for everyone...
Before the season starts:
- Know your home's vulnerability to storm surge, flooding and wind - increase your insurance coverage before a hurricane is forecast - you won't be able to once it hits or is in the proximity
- Locate a safe room or the safest areas for each hurricane hazard
- Know your evacuation routes and plan accordingly - perhaps a location in your community is best
- Determine your escape route and have an out of state contact ready to receive you as necessary
- Don't forget to plan for your pets
- Have a NOAA approved weather radio available
- Secure your home - protect windows, doors, garage doors and your roof
Some important numbers:
