Charlotte, NC Remembers Its Fallen Heroes This Memorial Day Weekend

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty 179530

Memorial DayLet's remember our fallen heroes on Memorial Day this Monday. Memorial Day weekend might be a great way to "kick off" the summer season, but let's remember why we enjoy this weekend in the first place.

Memorial Day is a day to remember those brave men and women who have given their lives to defend our freedom. It's also a good time to show support for those who have been wounded while protecting our nation. These heroic men and women sacrificed their futures so that we as a nation might enjoy a and safer and stronger future.

So while celebrating and having fun this weekend, do take a bit of time to remember why we have an opportunity to enjoy a three-day weekend each May. Let's not forget the deeper meaning of the day.

In the Charlotte, North Carolina area you can attend Memorial Day observances on Monday, May 30th to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defending our nation all around town. Here are three places where you can paricipate and honor the fallen:

Lisa Von Domek ~ hi Lisa... so many activities here and in other cities revolve around "fun." It's nice to know there are also those that provide reflection on why we have this holiday in the first place.

William Feela ~ I hope that, as well, Bill. I really worry that many younger people have no idea why we have this holiday and what it means.

Grant Schneider ~ hi Grant, from one perspective before this was a 3-day holiday, when it was simply observed always on May 30th, I think people remembered better why the holiday.

Those of us that are older will remember but I don't think the younger generation gets it being anything but the start of summer.

The reason for the holiday is lost without type, hunt and peck and imagery to remind. So folks never forget that some gave all, many gave some.

Nina I agree "Memorial Day is a day to remember those brave men and women who have given their lives to defend our freedom."  In fact we should be doing that everyday.

Debbie Reynolds ~ I have to agree with you, Debbie. Back in the 1950's when it was still Decoration Day and always on May 30th and not a long weekend, as a Girl Scout I marched each year with my troop in the neighborhood parade. So we really "got it" from a young age.

George Souto ~ I so agree with you, George. But at the very least more people could reflect on this one day of the year than probably actually do.

Joanna Cohlan ~ hi Joanna, the price of freedom is not cheap, for sure. I here so many people toss around that phrase "it's a free country." But those people don't have a clue what it took for them to even be able to say that.

Joan Cox ~ thanks, Joan. It seems that increasingly people feel somewhat shy about saying they are patriots and grateful for those who died for us.

Robert (Bob) Gilbert ~ hi Bob... there aren't that many overall in the Charlotte area either... I suspect it has something to do with the fact that it's a long weekend and people go away.
