Aah, the long Memorial Day weekend! The unofficial start of the Summer season and the last major holiday before school lets out: What could be better? Besides grilling on the beach or poolside or enjoying a staycation at any of our fine hotels, following are two great ways that South Floridians can spend the weekend in their own backyard:
HOME DESIGN AND REMODELING SHOW: Once again, DIY aficionados and lovers of all things home related can get their fill with the Home Design and Remodeling Show to be held at the Broward County Convention Center, Fort Lauderdale, Fl. As in past years, there will be thousands of products & services showcased to the public under one roof. Starting May 27, 2016 at 4:00pm through Monday May 30, 2016, visit the convention center for the home extravanganza and take in live presentations given by area design professionals and chats by DIY channel's own Sara Bendrick ("I hate my yard") on Sunday and Monday, and Jason Cameron's chats on "Man Caves" on Saturday at 1:00 and 3:00pm.
GREAT AMERICAN BEACH PARTY: The 7th annual Great American Beach Party, sponsored by the city of Ft. Lauderdale, will be held this year on May 28, 2016. The stretch of beach on A1A , between Las Olas Blvd and Castillo St. will be the scene for the annual event, so party goers should park downtown at the City Park Garage (cost of $5 all day) & take the Sun Trolley to/from the beach. Come out and enjoy entertainment of all kinds, including music by several live bands, headlined by Gainesville's own Sister Hazel, a classic car show, an art show and a sand castle building contest. This free and family friendly party starts at 10:00am and ends at 8:30pm. Call 954-828-5363 for information.
