In rural America in spots like Northern Maine's Aroostook County, agents do more than just houses and homes. 

Residential sales are a big staple but land, small mom and pop groceries type businesses, multi units and vacant land are big components of the real estate picture.  So much of what the REALTOR and other organizations do is pound away at homes, houses, residences for sale.  But in "Vacationland" land sales are a huge part of what a general real estate broker handles in their day to day. Waterfront lots, farm land for homesteaders and back to nature hobby farmers, building sites, small business enterprises and commerical development land are all part of the mix.  Maybe rural states where there is more land and open space and homes are not built in models of large sprawling subdivisions, the term REALTOR means more than house, house, house.
