It has been an interesting 24 hours at my house.
We have been buying our cars from the same Lincoln dealership for the past 20 years. We love our salesman and we know he goes to bat for us with each deal.
He called me Thursday night and asked me if I wanted to turn my leased MKZ in early. The lease was due to expire this coming December. I told him I was happy with my car and not excited about coming up with any money or higher payments. He said they would take care of everything and I would drive out in a brand new Lincoln MKC (which is the smaller SUV). I told him that is what I wanted my next vehicle to be.
Of course, I asked him what the catch was. He said they were in a big push to move as many cars as possible for the Memorial weekend.
I told him I would PLAY if he could make a deal on my husband's car. His car is financed and the larger SUV (MKX). It was 14 months old and already had 26,000 miles racked up. My salesman moaned and groaned and asked me how much money I was willing to come up with. Mine answer was NONE.
I told him to call me once he worked his magic.
He called many times during the day. Each deal wasn't quite good enough and each time I said Ehhhh - I will hold off till December.
He finally called back and said it was their best offer. All I would need to come up with was $500 and we could drive off in 2 brand new cars.
I pretended not to be impressed and yawned a bit as I was jumping in the car to fly over there.
My husband and I both have brand new cars in the garage and we only wrote a check for $500!
I think he will think twice before he makes the call to me again trying to sell me on a deal.
