History of a Painting - J. H. Butterfield's Store,

During a few weeks between ending my season of Art shows and festivals in the southern states and continuing in the northern states, we decided to drive up the east coast to Maine, then to Niagara Falls and across to the Michigan, Indiana area, where some of our next shows were scheduled.
While in Maine, we made a stop in Bar Harbor, where I took many photos, some of stores, which includes two, that I eventually painted. They were the Christmas Spirit Shop and J. H. Butterfield & Co.
The Christmas Spirit Shop painting was featured on the cover of Sunshine Artist Magazine in the December issue of 1999. The Butterfield painting is one of my favorites.
The store was located at 152 Main Street at the top in the hill. The were known for making Christmas Wreaths during the Holiday season and a home improvement and grocery store the rest of the year, including gifts for sale. I have heard that the store owner, has retired and closed this picturesque store.
The style follows many of my other painting, showing color, light and reflections on the rainy streets.
