Adults Are Obsolete Children

What do you do on a Memorial Day weekend? There are memorial services, parades, and celebrations. Many family and friends get together. Whether it is a big community gathering, a party, or just a private affair, it is a day of remembrance. How you celebrate, is up to you. As for me, I'll stand around the big old oak tree with its gnarled branches, reflecting on the tree of life. My feet will be planted on the ground beneath the root system where it is home to creatures beneath the surface. In a meditative state of mind, I will feel the life energy coming from what stands before me, and through my veins human blood will flow pumping the heart beneath my chest. No one will know the secrets of my heart; yet I believe every fiber of my being is of interest to a higher being.
Every soldier was a child. They had imagination, hope, and dreams. A child plays; they fall down, they bleed and get up again to face another day. A mother and father may pray for their child's protection and safety - yet everything is outside of their control because children are only human. A child may play with toy guns or shoot a spider with his/her pointer and thumb. In a child's imagination, nobody is ever really killed. Children live in a fantasy world believing they are indestructible!
The growth of a child is a struggle against time. Senses are developing. Feelings change as children grow up. Some, will become a soldier. Others may marry one, or be the daughter or son of a soldier. Many youngsters will play Hide-and-Go Seek behind a tree and even climb its enormous branches. They will eventually have splinters and know that pain hurts. Others will gain great wisdom from studying trees, medicine, and nature. If a child is lucky enough to grow up and become a parent, hopefully, they will have a better understanding of how important the tree of life is for generations to come and all will want to know the true definition of liberty, justice, and freedom for all. Memorial Day is a time for reflection and gratitude for those who served and paid the highest price known on earth.
