BabyIn looking into the faces of consumers in the real estate world they are looking to you, the Realtor, Stager, Appraiser, Lender, Inspector, Title Officer, to be that expert.

Within that realm I think there is always room for improvement. How about

                    DWYSYWD

or, Do What You Say You Would Do.

Too often, even on that simple task, some fall down and don't come through. It is nothing more than a sloppy work habit, but the public needs our professionalism in this area.

Consistent

I am talking CONSISTENCY. A unified message. Someone who can be counted on. To return phone calls. To stay up on their training. To provide a level of service promised. Consistency like authority, and boundaries, is a mark of a good parent, and in the real estate world - client relationship, consistency is the hallmark of someone who is taking care of you. Isn't that what we would all want as a customer?

The consistent message includes solid branding, knowing what your niche is, systems in place for buyer rep agreements, pre-qualification, and after the sale follow-up.

You never can get ENOUGH consistency in your life, whether it be love or service in the business world. When you find others, like yourself, who have mastered this trait, you know you are witnessing advanced development in the species. This is a beating of the drum that is definitely a plus for you and the ones you serve.

Gary, I saw your picture endorsing some new calculator thing.  I didn't have time to study it so tell us about it.  Thanks.

Fran: A good drumbeat in this vein I think is a healthy thing.

Sally: If we are consistent at the core, everyone will always know where we stand.

Barbara: I'll catch you offline on that item.

I can feel the Rhythm!   It just doesnt sound good when the rhythm is once a week....the good sound requires every day.  Great post.

Great Post Gary! The photos are beautiful. I think consistency is a must in our business as well as personal lives. A good example of that is the consistency we show with children. You must have that steady rhythm! Thanks for this message. Your words consistency at the core is true to the bone!

Gary,

The best is to call or contact someone back and start with "as I promised" I'm calling/meeting you/sent you, etc. We only have our service and our reputation. DWYSYWD is huge.

Dave: Once a week rhythm like going to church might be a good rhythm : ) Consistency can be found in many areas.

Becky: You are right, especially with raising children. Without consistency others get mixed messages and are confused.

Gary: I like that bridge phrase "as I promised" because it reinforces your commitment and shows you are consistent with what was proposed and what was delivered. As they say in marriage and in high quality music recordings you are showing "fidelity."

Gary~ I belive this is 100% correct. Things do happen from time to time, but it should always be our #1 priority to what we do best and do it well, and continue to pursue excellence.

You always say what I feel, but don't have time to say or write.  You are consistently great!

Boy, Gary, Well put and very timely for me.  Consistancy is what is missing right now from the home repair people.  I am sure there are wonderful people out there and wondering why it's such a challange to find some with consistancy...

Hi Gary,

Valuable information for all, you're so right. Consistently "Do What You Say You Would Do" pretty fundamental isn't it?

04/29/2008 09:29 PM by Orange Co. Real Estate~Lynda Eisenmann, Broker-Owner, CRS,CRB,GRI,SRES, Brea, CA (Preferred Home Brokers)

Being consistent is a form of being a man or woman of ones word. Initially, one makes a promise to perform certain activities in a certain way, and if one fails to follow through on that promise it proves the promise was a lie.

04/29/2008 09:35 PM by Rosario Lewis, GRI ~ DDR Realty, Orange County, NY (DDR Realty)

Laura: I agree. To be consistent with our excellence is what we should be shooting for.

Judy: You are too nice. I just write what pops out of my head for the day. Maybe I'm writing what's in your head : ) Does that make me psychic?? ; )

Carole: With home service people I just wish they could "consistently" get an appointment down to a morning or an afternoon.

Lynda: Many make things too complicated, it is really simple. Fundamentals ARE simple.

Rosario: You are right that to many giving a word in something they don't take serious whereas they should.

Talking about CONSISTENCY... I am afraid that I have to remember that more often as I started less and less to come to ActiveRain and visit my friends as yourself! I hope you know that I will never go away and always love reading your inspiring posts... even if lately I was not to consistent in commenting, reading and posting around here.

Gary, consistency takes a commitment, it takes work.  It's simple, but not easy.  Yes, it's the KEY.

04/30/2008 06:04 AM by Twin Cities Minnesota Real Estate - Marzena Melby (Counselor Realty, Inc.)

Arina: We all are busy, and have to spend time on business. Consistency, I admit, is a tough art to master. Hopefully, we are consistent in the areas of our life that we value the most. I always appreciate your blogs and your comments. Don't be hard on yourself. You are great!

Marzena: Great point about consistency being simple, but not easy. You have to grade yourself. No on else will.

04/30/2008 07:09 AM by Gary Woltal - REALTOR® Dallas Ft. Worth (Keller Williams Realty)

I agree with you, as Fran said, consistancy goes hand in hand with dependability and reliability.  Keep your word and doing your best!

04/30/2008 07:30 AM by Lake Norman Real Estate ~ Diane Aurit (RE/MAX at the Lake)

Wow - such is life!  Don't we all want to be with (friends, family, colleagues,etc....) the reliable, trust-worthy people we know!  Thank you for hi-lighting this important aspect of our job!

Tina :)

Gary, another way to sum it up is INTEGRITY. Do what you say you're going to do....it's not always easy but oh so important. Loved the first picture by the way, off the "awwwwww" charts LOL!

04/30/2008 08:19 PM by Maple Valley WA Broker/Owner Colleen Fischesser 425-432-5400 (RE/MAX Select Real Estate)

Diane: Keeping your word sounds so easy yet too often many fall down in this area, some due to laziness others ethics.

Tina: Reliable and trustworthy is the best, almost like a clock that keeps ticking and always on time.

Colleen: I only hang out with high integrity people (like YOU), cause I don't want to become the rotten apple in the barrel. That first picture you are right is a cutie pie ; )
