Caterpillar employees will be moving to Tucson over the new five years or so, with the new opening of a Caterpillar Regional Headquarters to be located here in Tucson. Over 600 jobs are being advertised.
Employees from Caterpillar are curious about the Tucson lifestyle, and have sent questions regarding life and living in our desert pueblo. I thought it might be a great idea to address some of these questions within my blogging posts.
#1: Why live downtown? What amenities exist for families, nightlife, etc.?
The first word that comes to mind is, "Walkability". No other area of Tucson is so diverse, so accessible as downtown Tucson. You may notice street signs letting you know about the different “Downtown Destinations” Tucson has to offer: Congress Street, Sentinel, The Presidio, Convention, Fourth Avenue and Main Gate.

History is ripe in this area and it's great to take an opportunity to discover the many facets of downtown Tucson. I recently enjoyed a "staycation" in the Presidio area and shared photos and feelings of that weekend of escape. http://activerain.com/blogsview/4868490/el-presidio-bed-and-breakfast-near-downtown-tucson--az
The urban core of Tucson is growing and thriving. Much of downtown is made up of local businesses and museums located in adapted historic buildings, from 1840s Mexican adobes to early 20th-century theaters. Teamed with this historic backdrop, downtown restaurants, bars and shops are have opened alongside galleries, museums and theaters that utilize and team with this flavor-rich destination. In all, about 150 new storefronts, from breweries to bakeries, distilleries, spas, boutiques, restaurants, collaborative workspaces and lodging have gone through start ups in the last few years. In addition, utilize the 3.9-mile Sun Link Tucson Streetcar route to get around the neighborhood districts.
The modern and vintage juxtoposition helps to create a vibrant blend of Tucson lifestyle total that reflects a personality unlike any other. Shop newer venues such as downtown's newest grocery store -- Johnny Gibson's Downtown Market (and check out the nightlife in the courtyard behind!) Savor Mexico City cuisine at Penca of El Charro or experience a molecular cocktail at HighWire Lounge. Taste the many house-brewed Vodka concoctions at Elliots! Next year, mid-2017, unwind at the eight-story, 137-room boutique AC Hotel by Marriott or the hip and retro Downtown Clifton.
A great place to start is to get to know the local scene during 2nd Saturdays Downtown--a monthly street festival with free and ticketed entertainment for the whole family and all ages. Catch live entertainment at the Rialto and Fox theaters or enjoy a fun-filled afternoon at Children's Museum Tucson. Devour a traditional Mexican meal at Café Poca Cosa or get your movie fix at The Screening Room.
