What if.......?

What if everyone said please and thank you?

What if everyone said hello with a smile on their face?

What if everyone spent five minutes of their day to do something totally unexpected for a stranger?

What if everyone used their blinker? What if everyone let the person in front of them merge?

What if in a construction zone everybody exited the "lane that ends" at the same time and traffic actually flows?

What if everyone thought of the reactions to their actions?

What if everyone spent 15 minutes every day listening to someone smarter than them?

What if for just one day everyone thought of others before themselves?

Buddy, I used to live in that world.  I keep wondering what happened to it!  I still say "excuse me" if I pass in front of someone at the store.  They all look at me like I'm cracked!  I miss the old world )-:

Buddy - that world largely exists - you just need to open your eyes a bit wider and spend a little more time watching and you will see it right before your very eyes.

Can't say there is anything on that list that i don't follow.  I like to think of it as Christianity

I like to think of it as common civility.  I can't tell you how many times I've been cut off in traffic by an angry driver who had those "fish" on the back of their car.  So much for being christian.

When people cut me off i don't look at what they are driving or whats on their car I just give them a quick God Bless you and get on with my day. Try it  its alot better than anger.

Oh Hugh I'm not angry.  You mis-read my comment.  The drivers with the fish on their cars are the angry aggressive ones.  Seems the more fish they have on the car the more aggressive they are.

Kevin, I'd extend the same sentiment to you, but well, lets just say, my beliefs are elsewhere.

Hugh, you then are one of the few!

Hugh - I don't have a fish but I was born under the fish sign - does that count? Equally I don't speed (remember, drive speed limit and save 25% on your gas bill) and I don't deliberately cut people off. Not saying I've never done it during a moment of bad concentration, but I can say I've never done it deliberately. I think it's the whole fish thing!

Buddy, great post.  It is actually fun to say thank you and excuse me to people you have contact with throughout the day and watch their reactions.  Some people are totally shocked when you do something nice.

Not to jack these great thoughts but for Terry & Hugh above, why do the all the people with the NOTW stickers drive like they're really not of this world? In SoCal if I see an Asian driving a car with a NOTW sticker, I just park my car for the rest of the day. And don't even get me started on lane divers - those last minute a-holes that would rather cause an accident than merge when it's their turn. The world would be a much nicer place without all of them (and many of you). (OK, that's a joke. I love all of you)

Terry,

Try as hard as you may but the world is simply not the terrible place you make it out to be. Every once in a while you should try happiness, its not deadly

Hugh, there is such a difference between reality and happiness.  I'd rather live in reality and forgo a little rapturous happiness, than walk around thinking everything is so freakin rosy I can hardly believe it myself.  Just because I'm a realist doesn't mean I'm not happy.  I just don't need to believe what you believe to attain "peace".
