It is June and in Big Canoe, Georgia that means the hot weather has already arrived. It's time to break out the bathing suits for swimming, appetites for eating delicious foods, life jackets for boating, and the chairs for outdoor concerts and movies.
Upcoming events in Big Canoe this month:
Wednesday, June 8th: The North Georgia Veterans Meeting and Luncheon will begin at 11:30 am and feature Mr. Tommy Clack, who is the Chairman of the Board of Walk of heroes Vietnam War Memorial. The meeting will be held in the Clubhouse.
Wednesday June 8th through Friday June 10th: Kids Summer Fish Camp from 9 am till 1:00 pm each day. Details are available at the marina where the campers will meet.
Friday, June 10th: The Big Canoe Summer Movie Series begins. This will be the first ever Summer Movie Series for Big Canoe. Held in the Play Field park, this summer movie night will feature Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Movie goers are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and snacks, although a concession stand for snacks will be available. The movie begins at approximately 9:00 pm.
Saturday, June 11th Music at the Marina. Everyone is invited to bring a pot luck dish and pay a $5.00 entry fee to cover the cost of the musical entertainments which will be Bob Knyszt and the 8th of January Bluegrass Band.
Sunday, June 12th: The Knowledge Series presents Dr. Tracey Laird, an ethnomusicologist who will be speaking on the topic of," Austin City Limits: A History." Dr. Laird is an author and hosts a weekly radio talk show. The talk begins at 4:00 pm and the cost is $5.00
Wednesday, June 15th through Friday, June 17th Second session of the Kids Fish Camp. Time is 9:00 am till 1:00 pm each day and the campers will meet at the marina at Lake Petit.
Friday, June 17th, Saturday, 18th & Sunday, 19th: Happy Father's Day and to celebrate Father's day, the Clubhouse will be offering delicious prime rib dinners including sides and dessert all weekend long from 5:00 pm till closing. Cost is $21.99 for a King Cut ( 16 oz.) and $18.99 for a Queen cut (12 oz.)
Saturday, June 18th: Ray Reach and his band will be featured at the Terraces beginning at 7:30 pm. Ray plays a variety of music including classical, jazz, Motown, rhythm and blues, and classic rock.
Tuesday, June 21st Trip to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. This day long excursion includes a bus trip to the gardens, lunch on your own in one of the three restaurants on the property, and four hours to stroll and enjoy the gardens plus the exhibit," Chuhiliy in the Garden." The cost is $45.00 per person.
Wednesday, June 22 A Touch Of Spain Wine Dinner will be presented at the Veranda at the Black Bear Pub. The meal begins with a first course of tapas, followed by Gazpacho, and then the entree which will be seared halibut with potato pancakes and asparagus. To top off the meal dessert will be a Spanish flan. Each course will be paired with a different wine. Cost will be $60.00 per person to enjoy a taste of Spain!
Thursday, June 23rd: The Big Canoe Travel Club presents Annie Hawthorn of the cruise line Regent Seven Seas. She will be discussing the all-inclusive cruises Regent Seven Seas has to offer. This will take place in the Mountains Grille Room in the Clubhouse, the cost is free and refreshments and door prizes will be offered.
Wednesday, June 29th: This month's Community Dinner will be sponsored by the Bear Society and features a taste of Cajun Style Louisiana food. Cost is $22 per person.
