Real Estate Agents OR Computer Programmers? Are you a Realosaur?

Back in the old days in 1974 when I started in the business, there were...

NO... Lockboxes
NO...  Internet
NO...  Personal Computers
NO...  MLS System
NO...  Home Pictures
NO...  Cell Phones
NO...  Pagers
NO...  Electric Typewriters used
NO...  Copy Machines (we used Carbon Paper)

Can you imagine selling real estate that way today?  It wasn't easy.

Today, we're virtually forced to use 1) Digital Cameras, 2) Digital Video Cameras, 3) Cell phones that take pictures, play music, access the internet, 4) Compete Internet Based MLS Systems, 5) Email Communication, 6) Tech Savvy Personal Websites, 7) Computer Programs like Excel Spreadsheets, Word Processors, Graphic Programs and you name it.

It seems like unless you are a "Computer Wizard" these days, you're going to have a VERY hard time making it in the real estate business today.  The "best" and "most impressive" marketing today is electronic oriented.

Jeff Foxworthy says "If the tires on your home are better than the tires on your truck....you might be a Redneck"

So I think if you've been around real estate as long as the dinosaur's and...

  1)  "If you think megabite means biting off too much bread at once...then you might be a Realosaur".

  2)  "If you think ‘pdf' stands for ‘Pretty Damn Fast'...you might be a Realosaur"

  3)  "If you think ‘pixel' is something for your hair...you might be a Realosaur"

  4)  "If you think ‘Lead Generation' refers to young people that will lead the nation...you might be a Realosaur"

  5)  "If you think a ‘text message' is a printed message vs a cursive one...you might be a Realosaur"

  6)  "And lastly, if you think a ‘Blog' is a creature in the woods...then you might be a Realosaur"

Please feel free to blog any Realosaur's I've missed.

This is a fun blog.  I remember all those old ways.  I specifically remember when I decided to get a mobile phone.  I had this older gentleman out in the middle of a big piece of land.  We were walking down toward the river and he was sweating and resting and I got worried.  I thought that if he had a heart attack out there, what would I do.  So I vowed to get a phone.

Next few days found me in Little Rock getting me one of those bag phones.  Well, yes, it might be kinda heavy to carry around with me if I got out of the car but I could do that.  Later on I learned there was no cell service out there anyhow!!  But it had been a motivator.

It is amazing how much has changed in the business world.  It is going to keep changing, seems like you can embrace it or be left behind.  David it looks like you are doing a good job of embracing change.

David - I love it!  While I didn't enter the business in the 70's like you, I can certainly relate to many of theses changes.  Isn't it mind boggling?  It'll be exciting to see what the next 10 -20 years will bring.  It seems like you've done a great job of adapting - you won't become extinct!

David,

What a fun post! I have only been in real estate since 1990 but I used carbon paper. In fact I found a box and used it recently. Had a seller sign, using carbon paper and had 3 copies at an auction. It really worked. What a novelty.

If you think a mouse is a critter that you set a trap for, You just might be a Realosaur!

If you think a tablet is something you take two of, and call the doc in the AM, you just might be a Realosaur!

If you think re-booting is getting some new shoes, you just might be a Realosaur.
