Sue Shay at BlueBird Hills Cellars

The first time that I met the lady in this picture she insisted on giving me a hug as if we were long lost friends.  We'd never spoken a word to each other until I introduced myself as the person behind the Facebook page 365 and More Things to do in Lane County, Oregon.

She follows my page and frequently clicks Like on many of my posts.  I knew from Facebook that she was one of the owners of BlueBird Hill Cellars and that they were opening their tasting room over Memorial Day weekend.

My wife, father, and I brought a hearty picnic lunch to BlueBird Hill Cellars and B&B, located just north of Alpine, Oregon and one of several hundred wineries in the fertile Willamette Valley.

BlueBird Hill Cellars and B&BA Facebook page is somewhat like a blog.  If you consistently post quality content, you gain understanding and respect from those that follow you.  They may not know who you are, but they appreciate your efforts and form an invisible bond with what you're trying to accomplish.

Sue Shay and I didn't know each other, but through Facebook in a way we did know each other.  We chatted as if we were old friends as my wife, father and I sampled the wines.  She introduced me to friends and family who were there to celebrate the grand opening of the tasting room.

Her husband Neil, an Oregon State University professor, showed me around the vineyards and shared stories about their business and how they found this place.  More people arrived to discover this relatively new winery off the beaten track.

The wine was delicious, the hospitality amazing, and the view one that many would pay big money at a resort to experience.  We'll be back and we've told our our friends about BlueBird Hill Cellars.

This memorable experience was courtesy of being Facebook friends and recognizing each other's individual talents.  I took many pictures while I was there and shared them with Sue and Neil in a Flickr album.

The photos are for their use to promote their business with no attribution necessary.  That's what (Facebook) friends do to support each other's efforts.  The pictures were shared on their Facebook page's album and one appeared in a blog post after the weekend.

Sue continues to click Like on my posts and we'll bring our friends to sample their wines and eat a delicious spread while enjoying an incredible view.

Facebook friends can sometimes become real friends!

Great story, Rick. Meeting Active Rain members brings that same sense of knowing someone, even when meeting face-to-face for the first time. You and Sue, and BlueBird Hill Cellars now have a special relationship

Active rain is like that too.  Just today I had a meet up in Atlanta with AR peeps from Wisconsin and NC as well as several from around Atlanta.  I drove about an hour and half to meet them.  It was fabulous.

You should write more often Rick.
