While we mourn the lost of lives of those 50 who were massacred in Orlando, FL, and perhaps more to follow, let us remind ourselves, it's not always about guns that kill gays and it's not always about hate crimes either.
This past Saturday, June 11, 2016, Christina Grimmie was murdered in Orlando, FL by a deranged fan after her performance at a concert while signing authographs. This rising star was featured on The Voice in 2014 and ended up in third place. Beautiful Christina, with the voice of an angel, will no longer be performing in concerts. We will never know how far she could have gone but her life touched many souls and she made an impact on others. Christina Grimmie was only 22 years old and she was killed in Orlando on Saturday, June 11, 2016. Perhaps her story was overshadowed; perhaps it's because her story wasn't as big to the media, as the other incident in Orlando. But I felt, it was fitting to remember, that not all crimes are about hate crimes. Many are about passion. Some crazy fan decided to take her life; then kill himself.
Here's Christina Grimmie singing "Can't Help Falling In Love," on the Voice in 2014. I find this a fitting video to memorialize the life of this brilliant young and talented singer/piano player because this legendary song is responsible for so many children born into this world. I myself made love while this song was singing in the background more times that I could count. I would like to think, my own children were born as a result of this song, sung by Elvis Presley. It's a song, that was dedicated to me and my Groom at our wedding. Like all couples, falling in love, we can only hope to bring children into this world who are healthy, loving, kind, talented, and special. A child, like Christina Grimmie, brings hope into the lives of people who are in love with each other. Every child has talent and they bring so much happiness into our lives. To every parent who lost a child, whether it was through a hate crime, passion or other circumstances, my compassion and heartfelt condolences to all. The only hate that exists is the crime itself. There can be no more blame or excuses. America has got to find solutions.
