No Show on a By Appointment Only
I was a no-show. I made the appointment with my hair dresser 8 weeks in advance as I've been doing for the last 5 years. Tammy is such a wonderfully talented and skilled person. She stays booked up. When I made the appointment she sent the date to me in a Facebook Message. That way it would be there for me to put on my calendar. Problem is, I didn't.
One afternoon, I got a text from her asking if I was OK. Then it hit me.. I was a no-show. No-Shows are irritating unless there's a valid reason. I work by appointment. She had allowed two hours in her schedule to color and cut my hair and now she's sitting there twiddling her thumbs when she could have been doing someone else's hair if I had cancelled.
She kindly and graciously booked me 3 weeks later in the rare opening that she had available. I told her that I would take care of the missed appointment. She didn't want me to compensate her for it.. but it was the right thing to do.. so when she did my hair, I doubled the payment to pay her for the missed appointment.
I'm not patting myself on the back. It was actually a very selfish thing to do.. It made me feel good to do the right thing and that's the only way I got her to accept it, by saying to her that she needed to let me do the right thing.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone could get compensated for no-show appointments??? To make up for that time that was especially set aside for someone but they didn't think it was important enough to either make the appointment or cancel it. I always appreciate someone letting me know ahead of time if they can't make it and I usually call or text before the appointment time, to confirm an appointment that someone has made with me. I considered my hair appointment important but it didn't dawn on me that it the appointment day had arrived, usually my hair starts driving me nuts right before it's time to go see Tammy. BUT I had not put it on the calendar. That was inexcusable. Thank you, Tammy, for letting me do the right thing... this client greatly appreciates you taking care of her mop!
