I fully admit that this is just my opinion. There are many people that are calling for gun reform. There seems to me that there are three basic positions on this issue.
1.) Those that want all guns banned.
2.) Those that want absolutely nothing to change from the way it is today.
3.) Those that want more stringent checks and balances applied when someone wants to purchase a firearm.
Personally I fall into the 3rd group. I own firearms, and I went through all of the background checks, fingerprinting etc that was required when I purchased my first gun. What I am hearing, however, is that some people are concerned that any restrictions on their right to buy a firearm would be a "slippery slope" and would eventually erode into their basic rights to even own a gun.
I personally think that there must be a way to draft future legislation that would be able to accomplish satisfying both camps. But, as in the fight between the GOP and Democrats, no one wants to give so much as an inch. So basically, this important issue has regressed into a political bitch fight. Seriously? Let's grow up and as Larry the Cable Guy says "Let's Get 'er Done!"
