It's the end of the school year in Montgomery and Howard County, MD. Already?! I know! It brings with it big changes for my little family, a memorable ceremony, emotional flashbacks and quite a few tissues.
On the left is my daughter on her first day of Kindergarten in 2010. It seems like such a long time ago and just like the other day, all at once. What she's holding is a traditional German Zuckertüte (sugar cone) filled with treats and little gifts. I remember my mom bringing it with her that summer. I remember myself wrapping the gifts and filling it and I remember my daughter's joy when she leaped towards me as soon as she got off the bus.
On the right are my daughter and I 6 years later after her 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony (I love that they call it that!), taken today. My daughter is one smart cookie, a straight A student, aspiring violinist and artist and sometimes a Veterinarian, too.
I look at my not-so-little-girl and wonder, how did that happen so fast? And can we please invent a "Slow Down" button, you know, like that "Easy" button? I wonder how much she'll grow and change over the next 3 years.
At this moment, Middle School graduation seems like a long way off. But it's not.. time flies. It's true. Before I know it, I'll be writing about just that.
