Winning Isn’t Everything

We recently visited a casino for a little R&R.  Bob and I are light-weights when it comes to gambling.  For us, our lives have been about the biggest gamble we’ve been willing to take, but every once in a while we want to do something silly, and our visit to the casino was just that.  We told ourselves before we left home that winning isn’t everything, and that even if we lost the money we had allocated for gambling, the fun was in the act.

Winning isn’t everything is probably true in many situations, but I doubt you would agree if you were gambling big bucks.  We enjoyed ourselves, but admittedly, we would have enjoyed ourselves even more had we won a bunch of cash!  I think it’s human nature to want something for nothing, and since I’ve always worked hard to achieve anything, free money is quite foreign to me.  I found myself, however, walking away from the casino with a huge amount of relief.  We are very disciplined in gambling so there was no chance that we would spend more than we allowed ourselves to take into the casino.

Winning isn’t everything, and sometimes getting close to winning is okay.  Not every real estate agent is going to be the top agent of the company, not all agents will make six figures for income, and not all agents will go any further than they already have.  That may not be such a bad thing.  You may be one of the ones who needs to be recognized, to have accolades surrounding  you, and to make six figures a year.  I say more power to you and keep up the good work.

For those of you who agree that winning isn’t everything, there is a place for you in the practice of real estate.  Brokers will tell you that you should strive to go higher, contests will spur you on, you will be encouraged to list more, sell more, refer more, pass your card out more, and the list goes on.  To you I say more power to you and keep up the good work.

The point is that if earning six figures is what you need to do, then go for it.  If earning a moderate  income is what you need to do , then go for it.  Practicing real estate is not always about money.  It can be your road to freedom to spend more time with family.  Real estate can be the vehicle you need to break away from a 9-5 mundane job.  Whatever you need this career to do for you, it can do it.  If you work it, it will work for you and you’ll be the winner.  I’d love to talk with you about a license.  Contact me if I can help.

This is a nice reminder that not everyone wants to be a Top Producer and sometimes being where you are in your business is right for you.

Thankis, Chrissi.  I've always admired people who are content in who they are, where they are, and not always striving to get beyond those things.  We have to be true to ourselves for sure!

Good morning, Carrie Hughes those who DO participate in the race to the top have it in their genetic makeup....it's part of their DNA ....not everyone is made up of that type of genetic matter.... but I'm glad I was....and what a fun journey it was....yes, I'm all wound down now and just do marketing....but I also find that the competitiveness comes out in that, too!!!

Hi Barbara:  Thanks for the comments!  I'm thinking we never give up our competitiveness if, as you said, it's in our DNA!  Even though I don't practice anymore either, I'm still all about competing - mostly against myself now!

Winning may not be everything but the bar has to be set somewhere to give you a place to strive for. If someone however is truly happy where they are and content with the level they achieve, like you said  more power to them either way. Have a great day!

Hi Tanya:  Yes, you have it right.  The bar has to be set somewhere!  Thanks for sharing.
