Do you try to be all things to all people? Focus and succeed!!!!

Focus on what you enjoy and do it well.  I say this to my son is graduating in June and thinking about what he wants to be.  I say it to my broker when he encourages me to do things that don't "work" for me.  There is not only ONE WAY to go in real estate sales or any business.

If you hate to cold call it will show through the call and the people who you are trying to reach will know you are nervous or unhappy and hear that uncertainty. They will not want to work with you if you can not be genuine.  Find another way to get business and focus on that.

If you are a great listing agent but are not happy working with buyers, save yourself the aggravation and refer the buyers who call you to another agent.  A percent of a commission is a lot better than no commission because you failed to retain the buyer prospects.  If you are happy and busy with listings focus on that.

If you are uncomfortable with taking and maintaining listings.... Don't do it- Refer, Refer, Refer.  Same as above, you will be happier working with your buyers and still get a piece of the pie.

If you are like some agents who like to do both and are good at it.  Good for you but don't forget to refer out things that make you uncomfortable, listings or buyers that are going to make you travel out of your comfort zone location wise, and things you just don't have time for.

If you love real estate but are not that good with working with clients and customers or negotiating, maybe you should look into appraisals, title work, staging, or some other aspect of the business.

The whole point is that when you love what you do it shows through to everyone around you.  If you are uncomfortable or unhappy that will show through too.  So explore, internalize your reactions to each aspect of your business, and refer or refocus the negative areas for you.

There is no absolute right or absolute wrong so "Do It Your Way and Do It Well!"

Keep Smiling and Keep Selling!

Great Post!  Thank you for inspiring me today!  Now, if I could only follow your advice.  I want to do it all.  My coach has told me over and over that I can't do it all.........refer, refer, refer.  I'm not new at this, but it takes a while for me to "get it".  Thanks again.  Have a HAPPY DAY!

You are correct...it is hard to do all things equally as well if you do not enjoy them.  Sometimes the best move is a referral!

I wish you luck Diane.  Sometimes we are tempted to do it all but it really does not work out.  Have a wonderful week.

Well said. Some agents are more comfortable working with sellers. Some agents are more comfortable working with buyers. And some enjoy doing both. It's good advice to do what works best.

Repeat the actions that have brought you joy and success.  We're not all cookie cutter, nor should we be.  Seek what works for you, your personality, your life, your clients!  Good post!

I like it!! I have permission to be happy with what I do and in return make others happy too. I recently heard that doing the uncomfortable is where we grow. I think that may be true too.

you are right...I really don't like working with listings...although it appears to be a necessary evil in this business...  I take on the sellers emotional roller coaster mentally....and so maybe I will just stick with buyers..good advice

Right you are Gary- Life is too short to do things we don't enjoy

Thanks Charlie,Charles. Derrick, and Krista.

Debbie I think you should try to stretch but if you really don't like something you should give it up.

Our business is a roller coaster either way you work it Konnie but at least if you like what you do you can handle it better.

Nice post. There are many jobs related to real estate. I know a lady who was a real estate agent who later bacame an appraiser and is now a loan officer.

Hi Gita, It is amazing that people who came in as agents and find it not their cup of tea just leave the industry instead of trying something related
