It's 7:30 AM.  April 30.  Erin's birthday (she's two today, and very cute).

Nicole and Erin are upstairs still sleeping.  They both need it.  We have had a whirlwind last few days.

I guess our lives are always a whirlwind.

We are going to the zoo for Erin's birthday.  She should be getting old enough to enjoy it this year.  Last year she was a little small.

Anyway, catching up with some odds and ends while they sleep.

Lots of soul searching the last few days.

Do I need to do things differently?

Short sales?  Foreclosures?  Working with banks.

Maybe I should drive one of those foreclosure bus tours.

I have Leonard Thomas questioning my strategy.  Yes Leonard, I do have one.

Leonard is a very smart guy.  And a great writer (although his posts are few and far between).  If you haven't checked out his posts, I would recommend you do.  Subscribe, even.  I have.

Leonard's thoughts are highly professional (he always wears a suit) and very aggressive (fsbos, expireds, etc).

I do things differently.

I am also very professional.  When working, you will usually see me clad in RE/MAX garb.

I am trying to win over the real estate world with kindness.  Honesty.  Integrity.  Hard work.  Fairness.

This is the way I would want to be treated.

My style is certainly not for everyone.

Some may be looking for an ass kicker.  I don't want to be an ass kicker.  I did that before in my financial sales career.  I did not like myself.

So I do things differently.

If you want your home marketed by an intelligent professional that cares about you, then I am your man.

If you are thinking about buying a home and don't want to be SOLD by your agent, then I am your man.

If you want a fire breather, a guy that eats raw steak for breakfast, and drinks shots of whiskey out of a dirty glass, then my style may not be for you.

That's OK.

There is plenty of business to go around.

Good morning Ken- I agree with your strategy. You may want to check out Danielle Kennedy's website, I really like hers.

We all have our own niche that fits our business style.  The balance of ambition and 'peace' can be at odds.  I like both types.  Don't knock whiskey out of a dirty shot glass until you have tried it.

Ken, your "headshot" shows a guy in suit, yet you seem to not like the idea of a suit.  One of the biggest things we face as agents is that we're ambiguous in our marketing.  We don't want to tick ANYONE off so we end up not appealing to ANYONE.  I'm not saying you have to be an ass kicker, but you know what, during some self reflection of my own, I know that a passive style in THIS market would not make ME happy as a seller.  So...Maybe I'm not going to kick ass,  buy I'm sure going to ask more people to move outta the way! :)

I like your style Ken. I have had a fire breathing Realtor pretty much ask me if I spew flames also. I explained my style: I take the honey versus vinegar route.

Ken - nice post.  Some people are born fire breathers.  Some put out the fires.  Others drive trucks.  My point is - variety makes the world go round.  If we were all doctors - who would pick up the trash?  I'm with you - do what works for you.

Ken  - being successful is the complete package.  It is being true to yourself, spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally.  You can make all the money in the world but if you are not true to yourself you are at risk of losing everything and won't have anything to fall back on.  I have built my business slowly based on this principal and if it should all end tomorrow I have a foundation to rebuild
