Dog Day Afternoon in Pet Friendly Manhattan

Animal Fair magazine chose New York City as the nation's pet-friendliest destination.

Whether you live here or you're visiting New York City is a vibrant destination for visitors year-round - whether they're four-legged or two-legged.

Not only are most condos and many co-ops dog friendly in Manhattan but there are dog friendly hotels, restaurants and department stores.

Pet-friendly hotels include the London NYC, the W hotels in New York City, the Loews Regency, the SoHo and TriBeCa Grand Hotels, the Waldorf Towers, the Carlyle and the Hilton Times Square.

Pet-friendly department stores include Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue; the pet-friendly Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle (where the Bouchon Bakery sells "foie gras-enriched dog biscuits").

There are also several pet-friendly salons like Le Chien in Trump Plaza on Third Avenue; a pet-friendly pub, the Brooklyn Ale House in Williamsburg; and New York's Pet Taxi, a company that transports pets.

Well, of course, NY Hotels are pet friendly.  How else could they have had Zsa Zsa as a guest??

That is one well behaved bunch of dogs.

I love the photo.  I love NY also.  I try to visit the city whenever I can.  It is a great place!

Great photo.  I counted 14 dogs on those leashed tied together.  I can't get my two to walk together nicely.  The rest of the county should take notice to what NY is doing, afterall our pets are our children!  Here's a photo of my two.  I'm sure they would love a trip to the City.

Lenn, Lol. "the chores...the stores...fresh air...Times Square....Darling I love you but give me Park Avenue" The dogs were very well behaved not one ran into the street.

Sarah, Thanks for stopping by. Bring your dog next time you visit.

Terri, Your two dogs are adorable. Look how relaxed the dog walker looks. I would be so nervous with 14 dogs on a busy street. Here are their cute faces.

Mitchell...what a geat localism post! My two mini-mutts are only socialized to each other...I'm afraid if I tried walking them in NY they'd take a nibble of every ankle within reach!

Love the picture.  I miss NY, but I am planning a trip this summer.  I love reading your info on NY, thank you.

Joan, Thank you. I think your two mini-mutts would adapt. The NY dogs will teach them new tricks. lol

Barbara, Thank you. That is great I'd love to meet you.

Mitchell, You captured the purrfect shot!  New York City is very pet friendly and even the little parks have a place for your pets to play.  Great information for those visiting.

Mitchell - Thanks for sharing that shot.  It is good news that so many buildings are pet friendly because for many their pets are their only companion.

Mitchell, what a fabulous photo!  It's all I can do to walk one dog - Willie the hyper-active Labradoodle puppy!  I never cease to be amazed at the professional dog walkers in NY who can manage that many dogs at the same time - and get all the poop scooped, too!

Carole, New Yorker's love their dogs. There are many dog runs in the parks. There is even a new condo in midtown west, The Platinum that has a dog walk so residents don't have to walk their dogs in the street.

Jennifer, Exactly, pets are some people's only companion and some people treat their pets better than their companions. lol

Pat, Thanks, It is amazing when you see two dog walkers crossing the street in opposite directions. Yup, you got to scoop your dogs poop it's the law.

I would love to go to one of the restaurants that allow pups.....too large portions could be taken care of in one fell swoop, er, gulp  lol.  The dog walkers amaze me to no end. All they need is a sled and a trip to Alaska! :-)  Great post, gotta love NYC.

Hi Carole, There is no need for a "doggie bag" from the restaurants that allow pups. lol

Wow! Mitchell - we have dog walkers up here, but they do 4-5 dogs at once.  I SOMETIMES do my three at once, but Buddy is quite a handful. 80 lbs of death with some male dogs.  (He was a pouch with issues that no one else would take.  The other two (40 & 45 lbs) are easier to work with and I walk them as a pair all the time.  But put all three together and oh broooother. So I don't know HOW a dog walker can do all that. I also marvel at the different SIZES. I mean the little guys are taking six steps to a big dog's one step.  I wonder how they do it and how they all get along so happily together.  I guess being in the city sort of stifles territoriality to some degree.  GREAT localism.

Mitchell: What a wonderful picture.  All those peaceful puppies just kind of hanging out together... discussion the latest political happenings.  Too bad they all couldn't vote !  Wait a second... if they lived in Chicago, they probaly could... LOL.  Thanks for sharing.

I am so glad to see more places becoming pet friendly! I sometime travel with my beloved pets and my father and step mother will only stay at hotels that are pet friendly! Just another reason to visit NYC!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I've never seen so many dogs so relaxed together and the dog walker isn't even paying attention to them. Maybe that is the trick ignore them and they behave.

What a great blog for dog lovers in NYC- and to have a dog walker that can maintain order in chaos- amazing!
