In April, 2007 the Town of Kure Beach will celebrate its 60th Anniversary. Incorporated in 1947, the Cape Fear Coast community of Kure Beach has been welcoming visitors for six decades. This Charming Oceanfront town dooted withmillion dollar caribbean colored homes will host a myriad of events and activities March 31 through April 28. Kure Beach's Events include a parade, street festival, musical concerts, an Easter sunrise service on the pier, kids' events, a talent show, 10K run, fishing tournament, and fireworks display. March 31: Kure Beach 60th Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration. 10:00am: The Celebration begins with an Anniversary Parade along Fort Fisher Avenue between E and N Avenues in Kure Beach. Then, from 12:00-9:00PM, the 60th Anniversary Street Festival will feature food vendors, arts and craft vendors, a Kids' Korner, square dance, and live entertainment from the Sandy Bottom Boys, Diane & Tony, Mario & The Shakers. A nighttime Fireworks display will take place at nightfall (exact time TBA). All events are free. April 21: 10k "Run For The Chowder" Race. 10k run begins in Kure Beach and ends at the Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-off (Carolina Beach Lake). Start time TBA. Registration fee. 910-458-8216; 910-458-7435.
April 21: Kure Beach Kids' Day & "Beach Fest". A day of Family Fun from 12:30pm until 4:30pm features a sand castle contest and kite-flying contest, among other family-friendly beach activities. April 22: Kure Beach Kids: "Hollywood At The Beach". A movie-themed afternoon designed for kids ages 5 to 11 who want to dress up as their favorite celebrity and receive ‘red carpet' treatment. Activities include games and free limo rides from 2:00-4:00pm. Event is free, but advance registration is required. April 27: 60th Anniversary Pleasure Island Talent Show & Jazz Concert. 6:30pm. See and hear the best local amateur talent during a live talent show, followed by a jazz concert by the Laura McFayden Quartet. Admission charge applies.
