What the Lion Cannot Manage the Fox Can; a New Stevens Point Mural Stevens Point Mural

Last week I parked down in the square in Stevens Point and headed toward Franciscans Downtown to visit with Fr Finnian when I came across a new mural.

Always a fan of any kind of art, I was quick to snap a picture and pause to admire the artwork.

The phrase “What the Lion Cannot Manage The Fox Can” had me puzzled for a while, wondering what is meant and if it was something that I should know.

Well I finally looked it up, and it is an old German proverb, relating to the Brains of the Fox overcoming the Strength of the Lion.

I don’t know the artist who painted this, but I am glad that he did. Not only for adding a little more beauty to our town, but for pointing out a new (or old) phrase to me.

Thanks Alexander Landerman for the lesson and the art!

Good morning Bob. Was not at all familiar with the saying, but was aware of the intelligence of a fox. Appreciate the learning this morning.

Bob that's pretty amazing art. That must be cool seeing new art pop up on walls.

I like that quote! One I had not heard of before to my recollection. Thanks for sharing the quote and the artists vision of it in the mural!

Hey Bob,  I haven't had a chance to see this mural either.  I do like the saying - I am not familiar with this one either, and I thought I knew a lot of old Germans.
