Southern Utah Gunlock Rodeo: 71st Annual Event
The 71st Annual Southern Utah Gunlock Rodeo is back again. This family-friendly annual tradition has been in Gunlock, Utah since 1945. Not only is it fun for town residents, but visitors come from miles around to help support a good cause and raise money. The money raised during the Southern Utah Gunlock Rodeo supports the town cemetery, town hall, and park.
The Southern Utah Gunlock Rodeo is managed by the Gunlock Rodeo Association Board. They go all out to make sure you have a full two hours of fun at the rodeo packed with adventures. This year’s events will include:
- Boot Racing for Kids
- Barrel Racing
- Breakaway
- Calf Roping
- Donkey Watermelon Race
- Chicken Chase for Kids
- Team Roping
- Bull Riding

About Gunlock Utah
Gunlock is an unincorporated town in Washington County UT, just 22 miles northwest of St. George. While the community of Gunlock does not boast a large town, it does come from a long history. You will find a plaque posted in the town with the Gunlock name on it. The name comes from William Haynes Hamblin. It’s a nickname that was given to him by George A Smith.
Hamblin got the nickname from being able to shoot a pipe bowl from 50 paces without touching the rim, and winning a $50 bet in doing so. You will also find that nearby Pipe Springs, Arizona is in honor of that event.
Hamblin “Gunlock”, and his family settled to the area in 1857. He is buried in Clover Valley, Nevada.

- Park Fees: Day use $7 (includes watercraft launches), $4 seniors 62+, $75 annual pass, $35 senior annual pass
- Camping Prices: $13 primitive sites with vault toilets, no potable water.
