'We are updating our wait list records and would like you to confirm that you are still interested in a garden at Fort Mason Community Garden.'

"Yes, indeed I am. I check my wait list status and saw Sunday that I'm number 22. Getting closer!'

"Thank you, and the good news as of today you are #14 on the list!'

Back in 2009 we bought our SF condo and rented it out for a couple of years before we moved in. Shortly after buying it, we did two things: 1) get a library card, and 2) I put my name on the waiting list for a garden plot at the Fort Mason Community Garden. At that time, there were over 200 people ahead of me, waiting.

This week I received the above communication - I think it might really happen!

Hi Sharon Lee and Anna Banana Kruchten - I don't know what I'll be planting! I guess I'll need to wait and see which plot is mine, whether there is mostly shade or good sun. Ideas: meyer lemon tree (dwarf); tomatoes in the summer; herbs; and a multitude of flowers for cutting. Maybe lavender, mint and rosemary. Maybe..... won't this be fun!

Good morning, Endre Barath, Jr. -- before moving to our condo in SF, I was tired of my yard and the maintenance time it took. Now I'm thinking of walking 20 minutes to a garden plot in a communal garden -- go figure!

Hi Sheila Anderson - having a plot in a communal garden will be so very different from having my own yard. Here's to a new life experience!
