I believe the Upstate average varies from 1 to 3 inches per year. I moved here myself from LA, and I don't miss the smog, traffic or weather at all! I traded the busiest freeway in California and a two hour drive home every day for a 10 minute commute. Now, I cross the lake, look at beautiful trees, azaleas in bloom, geese flying overhead, and see the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. My commute is like heaven, and totally stress free. I now have time for hiking, boating, gardening and walking my dogs. If you are worried about good medical care, the local hospital has an amazing emergency medical facility right in the heart of Seneca, Oconee County. There are also great facilities and doctors in Anderson and in Greenville. Clemson University offers classes for all ages as well as cultural events and a center for performing arts just 10 minutes away from Lake Keowee.
Greenville, our neighborhing city, is one of the top growth cities in the nation with a population around 200,000, and is approximately a 40 minutes drive from Clemson. If you want to be in a city environment, you might want to choose Greenville as your home base. The Haywood Mall and Woodruff Rd are the two most popular shopping/dining/retail areas in Greenville besides a beautifully renovated downtown, where you can stroll with your sweetheart along the pretty Reedy River Boardwalk. Community is very important to the people in the Upstate.
