Strange Encounters while Viewing Homes

Strange Encounters while Viewing Homes...

or maybe I should entitle it "What not to do when staging your home for sale" but since I am a Realtor and not a home stager, I will leave that headline to use by the professionals.

Have you had any weird encounters while showing houses or if you are a buyer, have you encountered some things while viewing homes that left you wondering?

My buyer and I had one today and we were not too sure what it all means.  We were looking at a vintage home for sale in Brooksville, Florida that had been built 115 years ago. No telling, what those walls had seen and heard over the years!

As we were walking through the rooms, floor boards squeaking under our steps, we came upon a single black (albeit plastic) rose placed in the middle of the floor in one of the rooms.

Black Rose

There are many vintage homes in the city of Brooksville, Florida.  Some of them are even said to have a ghost!  Most notably, the historic May-Stringer House in Brooksville which serves as a museum with over 11,000 local artifacts and... a ghost!  They even conduct ghost tours and not just for Halloween.  If you are interested in more information about the May-Stringer House, you will find it in a previous blog post about Historic Brooksville, Florida

But that's for the tourists and visitors.  Today, my buyer and I were looking for a home for her and her family to live in that was uninhabitated by people or ghosts.

And while neither one of us are superstititious, frankly, this type of "decor" was a bit creepy. Needless to say, this home was eliminated from the search list quickly.

I did let the listing agent know about the rather unususal staging in this home - apparently, he had never noticed it before!

A strange encounter indeed!  Coupled with creaky floors, there's stories to tell.

Silvia yep I would say that would be a little creepy.  I think I would have moved on to the next house also.

A black rose? No one had been in there since last Halloween?

Well that's pretty odd. I wonder if it was deliberate, or was it dropped and no one noticed. Was the house vacant? Maybe it WAS a ghost!

There is an estate home that the owner passed away and left in disrepair.  Inside the garage there is a 1951 Dodge coup with cobwebs.  It had no electricity so I had to inspect the home w/o lights. When I was in the basement there was this eerie feeling someone was watching me. Then I heard this popping sound. It sounded scary.   A few months went by the home was renovated and I was allowed to go inside to take a look what was being done. I asked about the basement the construction crew says he was not aware of it. I went to the back it was sealed and covered with a new room.

Whenever I pass there there was this creeping feeling someone was watching me.....

Now that is bizarre.  Somebody is up to something...  maybe trying to scare people away from buying the house?

Silvia - That is a little odd to have a black rose in the middle of a room in a vacant home. Hopefully the listing agent removed it when they found out it was there.

Good morning Silvia. It is funny how one little thing unnoticed by the listing agent can turn a buyer away.

Myrl Jeffcoat thank you, one way or another, there is never a boring day in real estate!

George Souto yes, and luckily, it didn't fit the bill in many other ways neither.

Kathy Streib sometimes we see strange things!

Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor®  home had been under contract which fell through... so someone had been there not too long ago...

Jeff Dowler CRS  vacant home except for one lonely black rose and I might add, with no leaves.  Can't make that stuff up.

Sam Shueh sometimes it's just better to pay attention to that gut feeling!

Noah Seidenberg yes, Florida may be a relatively young state but there are many old homes throughout the various cities.

Fred Griffin that was my thought as well, maybe a prank by some youngsters who somehow got in?

Troy Erickson  if someone told me about this type of stuff in one of my listings, it would be gone!

Sheila Anderson I'm thinking it's not always been there. It certainly wasn't in the listing photos.

Good morning Silvia, that's creepy. Perhaps the rose wasn't there when the listing agent was in the house last and was placed just for you and for your buyers..

Hi Silvia, that's too creepy for me, it looks like someone is playing games. I would want to know who placed the rose and why, then it would have to be removed.
