These feel like spam to me......the agents have minimal points, and it seems as if someone has found a way to shoot a group of purported referrals. I cannot be the ONLY one getting these. I've been deleting them all day, and in fact sent a couple two or three to the Rain Gods..........and now I get another. They all seem to be similar in nature with a different referrer.

Okay, what's up with this. Any ideas? Someone is definitely gaming the system. If you are one of the ones that is doing this, STOP IT!!!!

30 Comments on Is this Spam or Not? I've gotten No less than six of these just today. Anyone else?

My feelings are so hurt, that was me.  :)  Just kidding.  Those are sooo annoying.  Thanks for bringing it up Teri!

Hmmm my friend, there is a lot of spam going around and I am sick of it.  When I talk to you on the phone you are going to be amazed at the potential of lead generation for you and you will just trash anything that looks suspicious on the spot because you will have so many good leads!

04/30/2008 07:34 PM by Boise Idaho Real Estate - George Tallabas (RE/MAX Advantage)

Teri, when you have a solid Internet presence the "dark side" seems to always find you unfortunately too. An agent in my office was getting some emails from someone called Chicken Liver. I am so fast with the DELETE key and using Caller ID myself.

04/30/2008 07:42 PM by Gary Woltal - REALTOR® Dallas Ft. Worth (Keller Williams Realty)

Hi Terri, I haven't had one of these.  Just wondering, however, about your blog site now.  It takes a bit to pull up and then I have to see RED til my eyes hurt.  Is that because you are the lady in red and for emphasis or is it part of personalizing blogs?

04/30/2008 07:54 PM by Barbara S. Duncan ABR, CRS, GRI, e-PRO Searcy AR (RE/MAX Advantage)

Rich just wrote a post this am about spamming on the referral section. Why people continue to use that as a "me..me....and all about me" thing is beyond me.

04/30/2008 08:31 PM by Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman (RA), e-PRO HAWAII Real Estate & HAWAII Relocation (Century 21 Liberty Homes -Mililani, Hawaii)

I have only received a few of these.  For me, I think I will refer directly to the agent myself.

04/30/2008 08:35 PM by Audrey June-Forshey, GRI, Gaithersburg, MD (RE/MAX Realty Group)

It is sad that people would try and ruin such a great thing with their ignorance. Those people using the referral section as their own personal spamming section should be deleted and blocked from AR....I would report them to AR.

What you are not jumping at the chance to give away 50% of your income??

04/30/2008 09:23 PM by Melina Tomson, M.S. Salem Oregon Real Estate Specialist (Tomson Burnham, llc)

I have had several of them the last couple of days.. Stupid requests from new people as well.. Kind of annoying.

04/30/2008 09:24 PM by Nick Bastian - Tempe, AZ Real Estate Agent (Realty Executives)

George, well I, for one don't even get it. They sign up and then spam.......???? Hellllllllloooooooo!!! Not good.

Stephanie, I generally just shrug them off.......but today, I was sick of seeing them - for Pete's sake!!! This IS a professional blogging group, right? ;-)

George, I'm looking forward to visiting with you..........soon, I hope. ;-)

Gary, I just think it's really weird that they're putting in their names and phone numbers, etc. OR do you think they're fake? ;-(

Barbara, so sorry your eyes hurt......it's the new look. Haven't you succumbed to the Active Rain Blog customizer - and yes, I LOVE red..........maybe sunglasses will help. ;-)

Sally, that's weird, I didn't see Rich's post. I looked around to see if anyone was posting about this so finally jumped into the frey. I did send at least three of them to AR as spam. ;-)

Audrey, that's a good idea - too. I was going to, but they didn't even have a blog post........I could, of course, send a rather strong message on their contact section? Yup, I'll do that too........;-) Just wondered if anyone else was having such a problem today. ;-)

Dione, I agree and I did. Thanks. ;-)

Nick, very.........annoying! I suspect they don't know any better. ;-)  Or maybe they do? ;-)

TERI, I have thought about deleting the referral I set up in Active Rain as I have received a number of what I thought were bogus referrals.  Several agents have just put on a listing they wanted to sell.

04/30/2008 10:47 PM by Marchel Peterson Spring TX Real Estate E-Pro ABR (Results Realty)

Teri...I've gotten up to 6 from the same person in a day about 15-20 minutes apart.  Definite SPAM to me and truly ANNOYING!  We get these SPAM referrals about 5-8 a day.

not sure if I should be jealous or thankful - I think I will say - thankfully I have not gotten them... looks like spam to me

04/30/2008 11:29 PM by Central Oregon Real Estate | Thesa Chambers, Broker (RE/MAX Sunset Realty La Pine)

Did you see the post Rich did about people not using the referrals properly?  I guess some of us don't read the instructions.

04/30/2008 11:47 PM by Phoenix Arizona Real Estate ~ Doreen McPherson (Keller Williams Arizona Realty ~ Scottsdale ~ Tempe)

Marchel, every now and then I get a "real" referral, but this has been ridiculous!!!

Michael, yup.........same thing.

Thesa, thankful.........they're just spam.

Doreen, no - I looked before I posted this.........but I had sent some messages for two or three of them to AR. Maybe that's what prompted him to post. ;-)

SPAM sucks...I hate it when people do it via email...but, on AR, that sucks.

05/01/2008 07:41 AM by Clint Miller - www.recr.com (Real Estate Client Referrals LLC)

Teri,
No doubt about it, it is SPAM.  My finger moves to Delete very quickly.

05/01/2008 08:02 AM by Cynthia Tilghman, Realtor® Onslow County NC Home Specialist (Kingsbridge Realty, Inc)

So . . . Teri, the question is if I respond to your post, will I start getting this short sale spam? LOL. Naw, if I was gonna get it, I'd get it by now. Yoink. Famous last words.

05/05/2008 08:20 PM by Elizabeth Weintraub, Sacramento Real Estate Broker (Lyon Real Estate)

Might see if you can snag an IP address, Teri, and contact the internet service provider of the originator as well. I've gotten a few Nigerian emails through Active Rain telling me that I've been entrusted with millions of dollars because of a failed coup in North Eastern Afrcia or some place like that, and they want to wire me the proceeds of the national treasury if I would just send them a name and an address. :-)

05/05/2008 08:29 PM by David Saks - Real Estate Broker (The Real Estate Mart of Tennessee, Inc.)

Candace, very cute. ;-)

Bill, you're right, but it gets annoying. ;-)

Cynthia, I delete as well; however, those that send those emails don't know that it's considered spam. Go figure!

Elizabeth, yep....it might just be catching. ;-)

David, I think the people are real, but they've signed up on AR, and then through the referral window, solicit referrals from those of us signed up. Maybe I'll sign off! ;-)

Denise, to me it's spam....when I wrote to one of the young men, he didn't "get" it. ;-)

Totally looks likes SPAM to me....its a shame that that AR has to get clogged up with crap like this...such a waste of time for everyone.

05/06/2008 01:21 PM by Laura Monroe- Real Estate Virtual Assistant (Creative Agent Solutions.com)

I received them as well. I think it was very much an Arizona agents thing. I tried to give the sender the benefit of doubt... maybe they don't understand the system very well? However... then I received one of four times in quick succession- which made me wonder if AR was multiposting these as well. I guess when it comes to spam I've lost the fight... I'm just become a very quick deleter these days. :-)

05/07/2008 07:26 PM by Chuck Willman, Arizona Realtor®, ABR, TRC (Gentry Realty)

Chuck, good to know. I thought it might be an Arizona thing. I was getting a bit tired of the intrusion to be honest.  When I mentioned it to a couple of them, they were dumbfounded as to why it was a big deal. ;-)
