If you have finally decided that you are ready for a rewarding career in real estate, then its time to take the appropriate steps towards becoming licensed. A real estate license is a pretty great thing to have and of course required if you plan to work in the real estate business.
It is amazing just how confusing the licensing process can be for many people. The requirements vary by state and we all know that the state doesn't make any answer easy. So I have decided to go ahead and share some of the "secrets" to obtaining your real estate license in this article. Consider this a stepping stone towards heading in the right direction and I will follow up with it soon.
Real Estate Schools - What are They and Do They Exist?
Yes, they really do exist, in fact there are a bunch of them around the country, some of them even offer online courses, which I will cover in just a minute.
In short, a real estate school is any educational institution that offers a program leading to a real estate license. There are two basic types of real estate schools: (1) those offered by colleges and universities, and (2) those offered by industry-specific schools who specialize in real estate. Most of these schools will cover everything from studying to taking the test, so it is a really great way handle everything in one place.
Should You Attend a Real Estate School?
Absolutely! Real estate schools do two great things for you. Number one is the initial education, you are given the opportunity to learn the real estate business inside and out, there is a lot to it. If you are going to be successful in real estate, you need to have the required knowledge, and you need to become licensed as a real estate agent. The second reason is the possibility of a continued education. Many real estate schools will open you up to a whole new level of knowledge and quite possibly additional certificates which can only further your career. In either case, real estate schools can help you climb the "ladder" of success in the real estate industry.
Online Education vs. Classroom Education
The Internet has changed the way people seek education. This applies to the real estate industry too. These days, you'll find many real estate schools that offer online training in addition to classroom training. In fact, some real estate schools are even 100% web-based, with all courses being offered online.
Whether you choose online training or classroom training, the important thing is to ensure that it's a legitimate real estate school recognized by your state.
Most Real Estate Schools Will Not License You
The actual licensing test is usually given by the state in which you reside. It is a very common misconception that real estate schools can give you a real estate license upon completion of your training. This is not usually the case. In almost all cases, a real estate school will prepare you for a licensing exam, but the rest is up to you. Most states will require you to have a diploma or equivalent and some states require a certain amount of college level credits, so do your research before moving ahead.
