I moved to the Boise Bench in 1991. When we outgrew our home we bought the house next door in 1999. Initially we bought here because it was in walking distance to Boise State University. My husband was working there as a professor in mathematics and I was a lecturer in chemistry. We also were able to buy a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with 1500 sq ft for $78,000.
We love our neighborhood. The houses are all different. We have irrigation (saves on water bills) . I love our mature trees. Monroe Elementary was wonderful with less then 200 students. Walking places is relatively easy. We can walk downtown and to the fireworks. We are less then 15 minutes from almost anywhere in Boise. We don't have traffic problems here. We have nice parks with both Borah and South pools. We are not in any flood zones because we are high up.
Lots of Realtors and people do understand the Bench. I have seen it before and after I was a Realtor. They would make a face. Or do comparative wrong. We have pockets of great homes and pockets that are not so great. Most of our homes are older. My 1972 home on Gourley St. is a newer home for the Bench. We range from luxury condominiums to truly affordable housing. I know my neighbors. We still know what it means to be a community. We help each other.
When shopping for a home or listing a home on the Bench you need someone like me, Debbie Holmes, who knows the neighborhoods.
The Bench only gets better with some great Restaurants, religious communities, parks, shopping, the dog park. Even my Synagogue moved its historic building to the Bench. We have great views of the mountains and we are close to the highway.
This morning I woke up and my husband and I took the dog on a lovely walk around South Jr. High and Bowden park. We let her off the leash so she could chase the ball. She doesn't bother anyone and if there are more then a few people there we keep her on the leash. Many of the children that went to school with my kids are still living on the bench. Why would we leave? So if you do not want to be on the bench that is OK. There is more room for us. If you want to be part of this great area give me a call!
