Gary Jacklin is a good man. He is the broker owner at my office RE/MAX Action.
We have fought. Plenty of times. But he is still a good man.
I have threatened to quit. He has threatened to fire me.
When I first became a licensed real estate agent in October 2005, I interviewed at a local Coldwell Banker office.
It was right across from my favorite Starbucks. Mmmm coffee. Great location. Busy parking lot.
The broker at the Coldwell office had his back turned to me when I arrived for my appointment. He continued to "work" on his computer for at least 30 seconds while I stood there uncomfortably.
The "interview" lasted about 30 minutes. It was broken up several times with realtors coming in and chatting about business. It was odd. Anyway,
I thanked him for his time and told him I would think about it.
I had no back up plan. I did not know what to do next. I could work at that office, but was I excited to?
On a whim, I stopped by the local RE/MAX office, RE/MAX Action.
I walked in and I was impressed with my surroundings. Plasme TV on wall. Some people bustling about. What were they doing?
I had no appointment, but the young lady at the desk told me to have a seat anyway.
I sat a few minutes, when an excited looking man in a suit came up. It was Gary Jacklin.
He pulled me back to his back office. He had pictures of fishing and family all over. I like fishing. I like family.
We talked for probably an hour and a half. He gave me quite a sales pitch.
I didn't know then what I was signing, but I signed up on the spot.
"Welcome to the prospecting business," Gary said enthusiastically.
Although I didn't like the sound of that, Gary made me excited to be a real estate agent.
And that's what I became.
It's funny, I was over at my old Starbucks the other day. The local Coldwell Banker office isn't there.
Only a big FOR LEASE sign in the window.
The other broker? I don't remember his name.
But Gary is still there, welcoming people every day to the "Prospecting business".

Great example showing that real estate is not only a "prospecting business", but also a "PEOPLE business". Yes, it's great that we are experts in real estate, but why not be more! It's good business and good fun.
