Hello New Agent - Lets Get Started, I Challenge You to Comment

By

Hello New Agent - Lets Get Started, I Challenge you to Comment-  I just finished reading a very nice post by Debbie Laity, in it she talks about the power of Activerain and the clients she has worked with, Life in the rainmany by referrals from other Activerain members, and many that just "found" her online. Debbie, like a lot of top Activerain members, has worked hard to build this online presence, they connect with other members, write great content about their community and surrounding areas and share their knowledge of the market and their expertise in that market.

I understand the need to get business NOW! but have patience grasshopper, all good things come to those who wait, and work hard. The interesting thing I noticed about Debbies recent blog post, was the lack of new agents commenting, there were literally "0" comments made by any new AR members. Only one member with less than 100K points commented, and the vast majority of those that stopped by and gave her the courtesy to say something about her article all had over 1M points.

I have invited a lot of agents to join Activerain, and I every time I meet with an agent to discuss ways to help them grow their business I introduce them to activerain. To me it is another tool in our tool belt Grasshopper(albeit the number one tool for many) and like anything that is worth doing, it takes time to learn how to do it right. Sure you might be that one in a million agent that writes their first post and gets found by a client and you help them through the process and you are sold on the power of Activerain, but the real power is in connecting with other agents, learning what others are all about and taking the time to get to know them.

I have met hundreds of new "friends" from across the country, and have spoken with dozens of them. If I see a post I particularly like, one that deserves more than just a quick "like" or a comment, I will pick up the phone and call them and let them know how much I enjoyed their article. This works very well on other social media platforms as well, do not be afraid to call each other, this will go so much farther when connecting.

Another great thing about commenting and connecting is learning from some of the best minds in the business, there are literally scores of agents here that are closing 10-20 deals or more every year just from their activity here on Activerain, I know this to be true. Compare that to paying big bucks to get leads from whatever resource you are paying the big bucks to, but the real beauty of establishing a presence, is that you are showing to the world that you are the expert in your area, you will be found when these other resources dry up, or decide to raise their fees, or God forbid, decide to open their own Trybrokerage (yep that's happening) and now you are forced into making a decision whether or not to leave your company to continue paying for leads.

How about you create your own business, connect with others around the country, and around the world, share your knowledge, build your own brand, give and get referrals from others that know like and trust you, you will never look back once you do, it all starts with commenting and connecting, and getting to know each other here, one great thing that happens through Activerain is the regular Meetups that occur. I highly recommend finding one and joining in the conversation, getting face to face with these rainmakers is the most valuable use of your time, I have learned more form my connections here than I ever could have imagined.

Comments from ALL Activerainers are always welcome, just like they are on any post, please engage one another, do not try to take over a post or promote yourself, just start connecting, before you know it you will have many friends and you will start to see results in the form of referrals and clients.

Hi John - What a great post, full of excellent points for those just getting started on AR (and those that have been around for a while too). Congratulations on the feature!

Thanks Dick Greenberg I think so many newbies can learn from members like you, I believe you joined a few years after I did, and you are nearing the 2M point mark, and I am sure you would agree that it is not all about the points, but the dedication to connecting and committing to write good content, which anyone can learn, that makes this a great and rewarding place

Thanks Kathy Streib how do we get the new members to engage? It might just be that anyone with a few years under their belt, try to connect with newly joined members.

Somehow your message is not getting through to the newbies. I notice that I have fewer points than anyone else who has replied!

I noticed that too John Mosier perhaps if we give away an I-Pad or something to the agent with the least points that comments?

I don't even know how many REALTORS I have invited to Active Rain. It has been a large number. Everytime I meet with newbies or even Realtors and we discuss blogging I tell them about the Rain. Still, they don't join. Or, they join and never do anything,

John Marshall - FORE!

Sussie, I have noticed exactly the same thing, I see countless agents join and never come back again, if only they knew.

Everything starts with just that first, one step. But that step doesn't lead anywhere without more steps, one by one, afterwards. I wrote a post some time ago about whether there are silver bullets in our business that was featured and received a ton of attention. Obviously, there are no silver bullets. Anything we do needs to be thought out as to its purpose, how it will be done, and committed to for the long haul. If this business has taught me anything over the past 25 years, it's a lot of patience.

I really liked this post!! It's a wonderful reflection of the spirit of sharing and caring that we have here, and a willingness to help new members become successful in their blogging, and participation here. It's tough getting started - with posting, and with commenting. Encouragement can make a huge difference. I send emails to all the new writers I follow, and also email them to thank them for following me when that happens.

Connect with people at meetups, meetings is a good way to get people to know you are still in the business. Blogs get people's attention that you have something interesting to offer.

As a brand new agent I am constantly searching for the "secret to success" however I am starting to realize there is no secret!
Implementing a focused marketing strategy and being persistent is really the only way to organically create leads.

I am NEW practically in AR, but I wrote my 1st blog this summer, even when I had knowledge of AR and had my account for more than a year without even using it!, my 1st blog was featured and I got a lot of comments.

I've have enjoyed reading other blogs and leaving comments, and follow agents, still I am still finding my niche, I like to blog about my feelings mostly for fun articles about experiences I have had, and not to sell my services as a Marketing Assistant, but after that very successful blog I barely views, I don't have a paid subscription, but I am a little dissapointed with my traffic.

I don't want to talk about RE all the time, but seems it is the subject everyone here wants, so I will have to blog some more about it and see if I get better response.

I enjoyed your article and also read one of your responses to another post, hope to learn a lot more from fellow AR.

What I have found that has worked well for me, is writing what is on my mind, not necessarily real estate related, and then sharing on my social media accounts, now I think this can only be done with an upgrade, but even if I only have a couple comments, I almost always get 50+ views from all the other media sites, so please do not be too concerned with people commenting on you yet, just comment on other rainers that interest you and get to know them and feel free to call anyone, including me, talk about a quick way to build relationships.
