How to Stage Your Post or As Barbara Todaro Likes to Say...The Eyes Buy.
Kathy Streib is know to be a professional home stager in the Delray Beach area. But she is now expanding her reach with advice on how to stage your blog posts:
How to Stage Your Post or As Barbara Todaro Likes to Say...The Eyes Buy.
If you’re like me, you put time and effort into the posts you write. However, like a home for sale, it won’t do any good if no one reads (or sees) it.
Barbara Todaro always says The eyes buy, and she would be right. When we’re combing through the blogroll for posts to read, 3 things typically will cause you to click on it...the title, subject matter, or the member.
However, once you’ve come to the post, help your reader want to continue by staging your post.
How to Stage You Post...
1.Don’t make your readers squint to read your words.
Years ago Patty Da Silva, Davie, Southwest Ranches Cooper City, Plantation, Weston, REALTOR was kind enough send me a private email suggesting that it would be easier for others to read my post if the font were larger. I have never forgotten her thoughtfulness.
I use a font size of 14 but it is always your choice.
2.Let us rest our eyes with white space
Personally, I subscribe to the Peanuts format when it comes to my posts...white-space and keeping it simple. Let your readers’ eyes have some time to rest.
3.We like to see pictures, not a wall of words.
Well, yes, since we were kids we’ve loved picture books! Adding clip art or pictures helps to add interest to your post, break up the words, and can illustrate your point.
4.Bold will keep our attention, but don’t SHOUT your message with all caps or all bold.
It’s helpful to use bold letters to highlight a word or beginning of a paragraph.
However, it’s best not to SHOUT your point by making the whole post in caps, unless that is your objective.
5.Use color judiciously
Again, a personal choice. I do use some color in my title or headers. However, think of it like viewing a house. You don’t want too many distractions and many colored fonts could be that.
6. Pick an interesting title
Admittedly, the purpose and target of some posts will dictate the title. Market updates, listings, and other SEO- generating posts are like that.
But with posts that aren’t necessarily geared towards Key search words, you can have more fun with your title.
Just think about the titles that have caught your eye. Often they’re ones like
Six tips for _______
Or
How to __________
And then there are the ones that are just for fun…
One of my first Just-for-fun titles was My First ActiveRain Menage a Trois.
As always, your posts are yours to do with as you please (as long as they are in the ActiveRain guidelines.) But if you want your hard work to be read, you might consider some of these tips.
