Mid-Year Thoughts

The butterfly counts not months but moments,

and has time enough.

Rabindranath Tagore

Mid Year Thoughts

More than six months have passed in 2016.

A time for review.

For business.  For life.   And Yes, for me.

Okay.  Agreed.  Not too heavy.

But time…

For reflection.

Of things that have happened.  And things that didn’t.

Reasons.  Explanations.  Maybe even an excuse. Not a good idea by the way.

Lessons learned.  Always. Constantly.   Thankfully.

Transactions completed.

Others that never happened.

Strategies in place.

Arriving at the destination.

Often a detour. Or two or three.

A direction.  Not new. Not different.

Not redefining.

But refining.

Constant improvement.

Things that could have been done differently.

Can’t fret.  Don’t worry.  Be happy.  Stay mindful.

Can’t go back.

Don’t want to either.

Moving forward.

The right direction.

Focus.

Consistency.

Always improving.

Focus.  Focus.  Focus.

At times.

It appears.

Two steps in one direction and then one in another.

That is a part of life.  Sometimes.  Or so it seems.

Focus.

Focus.

Focus.

The numbers.

The stories behind and beyond the numbers.

.Movement.

Adventure.

Experience.

It’s part of the entire picture.

The whole pie.  No pie in the sky.  Yes, make mine cherry.  Please.

The picture looks good.

But always room for improvement.

Always.  Forever.

Six seconds.

Become six minutes.

And then six hours.

Six days.

Six weeks.

Six months.

Six years.

And longer.

Don’t ask.   Where did the time go?

We must use time wisely and forever realize that the time is always ripe

to do right.

Nelson Mandela

A time for reflection.  Yet remembering it’s time to move forward.

Every day.  Remember the moments.

Wow, this is down right lovely. Mid year reflecting is a good idea - and boy does time zoom by.  It's been a very challenging year for us on many levels, but we remain steadfast and confident in the days ahead.

I love this Michael and how poetically you phrase it! Time seems to be so compressed, the older that we get.  But it is always good to regroup and reflect to face tomorrow.

What a nice collection of thoughts about time, life and how it gets away from us and pushes us forward Michael. Thank you for that!

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 --- cherry pie is my favorite as well.  When I was young -- maybe 8 or 9 -- my mother asked me what kind of cake I wanted for my birthday -- no cake, cherry pie, please -- she thought it odd but there was a pie.

Michael, I can so relate to this ... I like the way it says what it needs to say without the details ... it speaks volumes.  Nicely done. Now, go enjoy some cherry pie - you not only earned it ... you deserve it.

Nice poetry, Michael. I've been reading a lot of Billy Collins. He makes me laugh a lot. My mid-year thoughts are it's crap, getting crappier, and I'm bailing for a few weeks, and I'll try to cling to the happier thoughts during my absence.

hello Michael Jacobs .  Yes a bit different and much appreciated.  For all the light heartedness much to be learned from your words.  For some reason I am picturing a powerful locomotive moving forward smoothly yet the engineer constantly checking gauges, stoking the fire, cleaning, watching the horizon ahead.  Thank you for the post and participating.  mark

Aloha Michael, it's interesting how waxing poetic gives awareness to the beat and measure of our day to day. When we groove to the rhythm, life is so much more palatable, less serious, and more engaging. A lovely and peculiar post.

Aloha, Kimo -- thanks - I think -- peculiar, huh?  I like that.

It's not what I would call an expected expression of a mid year business recap. You force the reader to use both hemisphere's of the brain instead of just the typical left brain analytics. It has the effect of trivializing the importance of the numbers and focusing on the experience of the process, instead of the destination. In that sense it is unusually peculiar, and slightly counter-intuitive but well delivered and thought provoking!

Thanks Kimo Stowell ---- obviously, the numbers are important to me but to others --- I'm not sure anyone cares beyond a purely voyeuristic interest.   I chose to address the thoughts that go into the planning and review process.

Spoken like a true poet laureate.  These moments that you share are so gentle, real, balanced, and almost stream-of-consciousness writing, which is  being in the moment, Michael. I think you have this whole life thing down pretty well.
