It just doesn't quit....gas prices are unbelievable and every time I go to the store food prices are up.  In fact, without fail, what I buy today was cheaper yesterday.

It isn't just the "extras" increasing in price, it's the staples....bread, rice, flour, eggs....for a family the size of mine I have to take every price increase and multiply it by 10 to get the full effect of rising food prices.  Complaining doesn't change the reality so I try not to do that tooooooo much....

Top Ramen

While at the store the other day I decided to pick up the cheap, easy "filler" for my kids; Top Ramen....what family can pass up a truckload of a food kids love to eat and yet costs practically pennies?  Not known for its nutritional value, I buy it because I have 8 kids that absolutely love it; anytime, anyplace...cooked & uncooked.

As I reached for the multiple packages I was going to buy, the price caught my eye.... "No, I thought, not Top Ramen too"; after all, I was depending on using it to feed my college-bound son for the next 4 years.  Both discouraged and depressed I put the Top Ramen back on the shelf, returned my cart, and left the store empty-handed.

coinsNope, it isn't the unnecessary things anymore, price increases have hit the necessities too...from food, to gas, to everyday living, I think we're all asking the same question, "When is it going to end?"

Joddie,

Not Top Ramen!  This is the cheapest, quickest, meal around!  What's a mother to do!  You know they can be nutritional if you just add a little bit of steamed veggies to it, tastes pretty good!

Man, I haven't tried Top Ramen since college! LOL I did ponder getting it the other day as I passed by it in the grocery store. Didn't go in my cart...maybe next time. I don't remember if I liked it or not!

Michelle ~ Yes, Top Ramen!  Actually, sometimes my kids do add "stuff" to it, even eggs!  Thanks for stopping by!

Ravinder, I had some Top Ramen recently...the first time in many, many years...it wasn't too bad, kinda hit the spot when we had a snowy spring day!

It is getting tough, prices are going up on everything. Even the basic staple of Top Ramen. This has been a diet for many of the markets buyers over the last few years.

I've seen more and more people shopping for the bargains and stocking up when they find them.

Geoff, someone said to me the other day, "I don't know how you do it, feeding all your kids".  My answer was pretty simple; whatever is on sale!  Last month was beef, this month pork :)

Top Ramen is a favorite in my house too. I have four children and three of them would eat it at every meal if I let them!!

We don't buy groceries by the week anymore.  It's every couple of days and only what's on sale!  It's getting pretty sad when a family can't afford to buy food anymore due to rising prices.

Wow.  I too used to love top ramen and toast back in college.  My wife and I decided not to have anymore due to the high starchiness.  Because of the economy, and in spite of my belly, I was actually considering on picking them back up (kind of like an old friend) if things started getting too dire.  Does anybody know if a little bit of soy sauce can hide the taste of dirt?  Just add a little sugar.  I know you probably grinned, but there are actually peoples in other parts of the country that have gotten to that point.  This too shall pass.  We've just got to make it through this rough spot in history.  It will get better

Hmmm. I don't like Top Ramen but I know that my brothers eat a lot of it! I am afraid that we are in for a press on everything. Hopefully it won't keep going up but will stabilize at a point. It's hard isn't it?

I love Top Ramen... but my doctor said it was too high in sodium to eat regularly. :(

I think a lot of the price increases we're seeing in consumer goods are linked back to higher gas (and transporation) prices. It makes me a little anxious to wonder what will  happen to fresh fruit and vegetable prices this summer and fall.

Laura ~ same with my kids...they absolutely love it...and of course, for me it's a quick and easy thing for me if I'm gone and can't do dinner (or don't want to).

Sandra, there was a time when I quit using coupons and scanning ALL the ads because saving time was saving money....now saving money is just as important. Whatever is on sale, that's what I buy.

Stephen, it is true that if we look at other parts of the world we still have it pretty good....we've gotten used to a luxurious lifestyle and don't realize how much we really have.

Lindsey, I hope too that things will stabilize....it seems like once it looks like it will something else happens ~ perhaps when the elections are over we can get back to "normal" :)

Steve....those darn doctors....why do they have to ruin everything :)

05/07/2008 02:30 PM by Joddie Roberts - Your Spokane Realtor - Spokane, WA (Tomlinson South Inc.)

John, we're already seeing fresh fruits and veggies go up....I think all this might cause an "explosion" at local farmers markets and in turn be good for the local community.
