Renewable energy, aka "green energy", has been an expanding field for the past several years. Tesla brought this to the forefront of our Reno community when they broke ground on their gigafactory. The Reno green industry has grown even more now thanks to the Apple solar farm located to the southeast of our city.
The Reno Green Industry
Reduction of dependency on fossil fuels means less use of toxic chemicals and more dependence on clean power. This reduces the harm caused to our planet. Fossil fuels are limited resources. Green energy, on the other hand, can be renewed over and over again. The Reno green industry just took another leap into the future with Apple's announcement this morning that they have been approved to sell power created through their Apple Energy LLC company to the wholesale market.
Originally, Apple only expected to utilize the electricity generated form its solar farm in Yerlington to help power its data center in Reno as well as other Apple facilities across the country. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granted them permission to sell power to the wholesale market in general as soon as August 13th.
Apple's entrance into the "green" energy market includes the 20 megawatt facility in Yerlington, a 50 megawatt Arizona facility and a 130 megawatt California solar farm. The Yerlington solar farm partnered with NV Energy. Their simple aspirations towards fueling their own facilities with green energy spiraled quickly into a legitimate player in the renewable energy game countrywide.
As we become a larger factor in the tech field, the Reno green industry ups its game as well. All this growth has driven up demand for Reno homes. With higher demand comes higher prices. Inventory levels are the lowest they've been in quite a while. Even with more than 40% of inventory under contract, hundreds of Reno homes remain available.
