Uncap Your Inner Strength!

When Lauren Kornacki discovered her father crushed beneath his BMW 525i, which had slipped off the carjack as he was working on it, the 22-year-old wedged herself under the mid-sized vehicle -- and pulled it off her father.

Lauren’s story is just one example of many incredible stories about ordinary individuals unveiling extraordinary strength during a crisis and utilizing more strength than thought possible. And to Lauren’s surprise (as well as others that uncap extraordinary feats), before she pulled her father from the car, she had no idea she was cable of doing what she did.

So what’s the secret? How do ordinary folks apply and find amazing strength? How do folks accomplish amazing feats? Look no further than “determination.” There are several definitions of “determination.” I think one of the best definitions is: the ability to continue trying to do something, even if it is difficult! But even a better definition is simply “the refusal to give up.” You don’t wonder “if“ you can do it nor do you come up with a reason “why” you can’t do it; you just do it without hesitation!

Now, just as determination, willpower, and drive allow folks to accomplish incredible feats. Fear, worry, and doubt do the exact opposite, and they’re roadblocks to success and accomplishment. The good news is – we have the power within us, we have the power to choose. We either have the option of choosing fear, worry/doubt “or” we have to power to invoke determination and overcome and defy all odds.

The concept of accomplishment is very basic. When you believe you can do something, and you’re determined to do something; you will accomplish it. On the other hand, if you don’t believe you can do something, and you allow fear/worry/doubt to get in the way; your odds of accomplishment are slim at best. The way we think is very powerful, and it is up to us to decide which way we want to look at things. And here’s the deal – “if” you’ve been making all the excuses why you can’t do something, you have the ability to change your outlook right now.

Good or bad – life is full of surprises and at times life can be hard. We’re going to be faced with challenges at home, at work, and in our relationships. No matter what, whether we like it or not – negative situations are unavoidable and will come up. But when faced with challenges we’re in control of the way we react to them. And here’s the most important thing you need to keep in mind; you have more strength than you realize and all you need to do is uncap it.

Jon- love your post.  We all face challenges in our lives and it is how we handle them that marks our character.

This is a very inspiring post, Jon!  Yesterday, I went to the gym, to work on the machines, rather than swim my normal laps.  This morning when I woke, I really wasn't motivated to go swim, because I was sore from yesterday's gym workout.  But, I reached inside myself, and went anyway.  I was about 2/3 of the way through my 2 hour swim, when I realized my muscles weren't sore any longer.  Sometimes, when you reach inside yourself, you can get through the looking glass!
