I was shopping with my wife the other day and got the scare of my life.In our shopping cart we had 1gallon of milk , two bottles of shampoo and one can of deordorant. Not much but this was over twenty dollars. We put twenty dollars in the car for some gas(a quarter of a tank) before we got to the store. We didn't buy what we needed for the kids for dinner but we spent almost $50. I come to a scary realization, things are getting extremely tough. With the housing market in such distress and the prices climbing to high to reach, how are we going to survive. It's very scary and not only for us but for millions of people around the world. In my business, the painting and faux business as well as many others, we are not a service that people need, we solely survive due to peoples desires for elegance. What happens when their desires are shoved aside because of necessity. Where will I be , where will we all be. I spend many sleepless nights with this scary reality in my head. I hope and pray things will get better. Not just for me but for all of us. I feel empty promises for all the presidental candidates will not turn things around. As we have learned from the past, time is the only thing that turn this around. I only hope it will not take too long. God bless you all.

I feed a family of 6 so I feel your pain. We have been buying bulk to help. Food and gas is now my biggest budget items. It should be your home thats the biggest.

The candidates are indeed making promises but forgetting to tell us how they are going to make these promises come true....it is all ga-ga by them!

Good morning Frank, I think that we will have to ride out this storm for a bit longer (1 year?) and then it will become stable for a while then we will start to see things start to tick up again.  Fasten your seat belt.

It really hit me a couple days ago. I pulled into a gas station to get gas. The guy in front of me was filling up a 5 gallon jug. He stopped at 15.00 but the can wasn't full. I just shook my head.

Frank, I, too, finally came to the realization a few days ago when I paid $3.77/gal for gas and then went to the store pickup up a SMALL bunch of broccoli for $2.59!!  I suddenly said WHAT??? As I began to look at the supermarket prices, I thought.....where was I?  Did these prices go up overnight.  Sometimes  we don't notice a 25 cent increase and the prices start to creep up a little.  But this is getting riduclous!!  Our commissions are not going up and our average sale prices are going down!!  How do we keep up???  Great Post, we're all thinking about it now.

Frank,  I really understand your pain.  I drive 3 exits on the beltway to go to a grocery store called Save-A-Lot and I do save a lot.  Basic food items are less than half the price as the large chain stores.  However, I have to take my own bags (I do anyway) and the selection is a little smaller and I still buy most of my meat at my local store but for everything else that's where I go.  I have 2 kids at home and 1 in the army that I send stuff too, I feel your pain.

I know those sleepless nights. Hang in there- we're all in the same boat. Time will turn it around.

WOW!  Never thought of the faux painter when I realized how much a lack of home equity hurts secondary industries!  There are probably hundreds of jobs I have never thought about!  I thought of other luxury services such as pool or landscaping.  I wish the best of luck to you.

I have done a ton of DIY faux in my house and after the last job I did (a negative frottage), I have so much respect for y'all!
