Prior to leaving on vacation, you need to make preparation that makes your property look like there is both activity inside and outside the home. Following are some suggestions to help homeowners make this occur:
WI-Fi Doorbell – This device will videotape activity at the front and is accessible by your smartphone.
Lights – Use smart lighting technology to vary the timing of turning on and off lights, both on the interior and exterior of home. If the lighting is consisted, thieves may realize the lighting is on a timer, therefore nobody is home. Have varying lighting in multiple rooms. A full time well -lit exterior, or lighting system activated by motion sensors will help prevent thieves from entering your property.
Neighbors – Notify your neighbors that are closest to you. These neighbors will likely watch for strange noises and people coming onto your premise.
Mail and Newspaper – Have a neighbor collect your mail and suspend delivery of newspaper probably is the smartest thing to do. Also, have neighbors watch for and pickup any packages and flyers that may be delivered to your front door.
Windows and doors - Make sure all doors and windows are lock prior to leaving your home. This is especially important for doors and windows on the backside of home. Thieves prefer to be unseen when performing their act.
Social Media - Do not announce on social media when, and where you are going to be gone. Posting pictures and photos can be a trigger thieves to enter your property.
