Pinterest Can Help You Build a House
I set up boards for house plans, kitchen layouts, fireplace ideas, ceiling treatments, trimwork, porches and outdoor living. I also did boards for light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, tile backsplashes, appliances and aging in place ideas.
Using Pinterest Can Make the Process More Fun
A couple of years ago my husband and I built a new house in Clarksville TN. One of the tools that made it easier and more fun was using Pinterest to get ideas, store my ideas and to do comparisons.
It started with the house plan. Many of the house plan sites allow you to pin the plan. I pinned everything that had a feature I liked. It didn't have to be the floor plan or front elevation I liked, it just had to have an interior feature that appealed to me like the design of a bathroom, windows overlooking a courtyard, the size of the master closet, etc.
Putting these ideas in an online file (Board) made it easy to get to and review whenever I wanted. Pinterest is a wonderful tool to use when building a home.
Here's how I did it, I set up boards for house plans, kitchen layouts, fireplace ideas, ceiling treatments, trimwork, porches and outdoor living. I also did boards for light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, tile backsplashes, appliances and aging in place ideas.
Knowing that I needed to incorporate some senior living applications meant that I had to think forward and explore new territory and concepts. It is hard to think about getting old when you don't feel old. When I saw a good idea or product I clicked on the pin button even though many of the ideas I chose not to use.
Being Green was also important and this required lots of research on products including being cognitive costs versus savings and benefits. Contrary to what the public thinks most Realtors are not filthy rich and have to live within a budget.
Once I made a decision on a product or design element I shared it with the builder and the subcontractors. I could tell them the source of the product and show them the photos and the reference. We didn't always use the exact product but having this resource allowed the builder to shop products and help us save money.
My Pinterest Boards are both public and private. If I felt like someone could benefit from my pinning I left the house building categories up. I continue to add to them. Since building I have shared this concept of gathering building ideas onto Pinterest Boards with several of my clients. They love it.
