Breaking In Next Door

By
Real Estate Agent with Big Block Realty 858.232.8722 CA BRE# 01261476

Have you broken into your local Nextdoor.com Neighborhood yet?

nextdoor

I joined mine a few years ago, it's a website that is dedicated to your specific neighborhood.  Nextdoor.com is a community chat-room essentially, where folks can ask local questions, get local crime or garage sale info, community events and yes, there's gold here too for you....people asking questions about their local real estate market or DIY (do it yourself home repairs & projects) questions.

Nextdoor.com is a FREE, it's private to your neighborhood as you have to have a physical address to join the neighborhood, and there's lots of opportunities here. From attending local events to meet and or support your neighbors to answering real estate questions or referring people in need your tradesmen and professionals from your network.

It's a great opportunity to become visible authentically to your neighbors by answering questions and generally being a resource. WARNING: do not go poaching here, it's not a place to be a cheesy salesman/woman. Let people get to know YOU first, they'll eventually understand what you do for a living and eventually prospects reveal themselves naturally.

Our local police dept. is actually the host of our  Nextdoor.com , so we get great real time crime updates, which thank God is not often or on the "heavier side" too frequently. Garage sales, school events, movie in the park nights, etc.

In an era where people "cocoon" (drive home, close the garage door behind them and tend to not even know any neighbors more than 2 houses away in any direction,  Nextdoor.com  offers a high tech way to drop a bridge over people's moat and storm the castle (socially) once again.

Check it out and if you want, post your primary neighborhood, city & state in a reply to me so I know where you specialize for referrals!

We have had an active Next Door group for a while now, and is a great source for community involvement.  Everything from vendor recommendations, plant swaps, tool loaning, and crime activity.

Love Nextdoor and it is a great way to welcome new neighbors, share tips, give recommendations for handyman services, salons etc... I also agree it is not the place to advertise your real estate services and instead should be a place that demonstrates your community involvement.  Our community recently had a black bear sighting, which is rare, even next to the Everglades and we were all alerted to it on Nextdoor!

We have one in our neighborhood with 115 signed up ! I set one up in a New Construction Subdivision (and snuck in that one ) . There are now 7 neighborhoods set up in our TWP. and I can post to THEM ALL !!!

My MAJOR COMPLAINT -  They make it near impossible for a NON Resident Realtor to set up(or help to) a new neighborhood.  What a worthy cause for an agent to go door to door for !

Michael J. Perry you bring up a great point, although I'm glad for their policy. You have to live in the neighborhood, in order to join that neighborhood. I think it defeats the authenticity purpose if you fake an address-what does that say about that person? I wouldn't want an outsider competitor in my hood. I don't mind if you live their, but my thoughts are you can't possibly know what I know here; I live here you don't. I wake-up, walk, work and socialize here daily, I'm an authority over a guy that lives 10 miles away so to speak.

Thomas , I am a believer in a very Micro/Longtail  Primary Market to service and Brand my Realtor ID . I would be wiling to go door to door in any neighborhood in my PM attempting to get one established !!! I would be able to reach each one , as I am a resident member of a Next Door in the same market . As far as new Construction goes , there is a clear benefit for a Site Agent to be a part of the Community until it's SOLD OUT ! So I guess I believe there should be a Temporary Membership status ?

Perhaps set one up and do it on your own to cater to your needs.

I think it works well now due to it's parameters and boundaries. Not sure how popular a "mouse trap" would be vs. Habitrail?

I also don't think in such doom and gloom terms that way. Things can get better
