Experience the Carlsbad Village Lifestyle

The Carlsbad Village lifestyle can be as simple or complex as you wish, but know that there are plenty of options, whether it has to do with dining, shopping, fun stuff to do or just hanging out by the beach.

The Carlsbad Village Lifestyle

Of course when you think of Carlsbad Village you no doubt think of a lifestyle by the beach. With 7 miles of beautiful coastline, many people live here, or visit, to be near the ocean and enjoy a diverse lifestyle of activities in the water, on the beach, and close by in town.

Carlsbad Village is the business hub of Carlsbad, a community of around 110,000 people in North San Diego County. Our location, about 35 miles from downtown San Diego, gives you the opportunity to enjoy America’s Finest City pretty readily, although it can take anywhere from 40 minutes to well over an hour on the 5 freeway depending traffic.

One of the neat things about living in Carlsbad is that if you choose to expand your lifestyle, the California desert is only about 2 hours away, and Los Angeles is 90 minutes to 2 hours or more to the north. If you want to go skiing, the Big Bear area is about 2 ½ hours northeast.

Transportation in Carlsbad Village

Many people choose to use their cars to get around, and one of the nice things about the Village is that all the parking is free. The City is working on a study on parking since it can get pretty crowed – stay tuned for updates on their parking plans.

Bikes are a good alternative, too. The City has installed plenty of places to park and lock up your bike in the Village.

If you choose to step away from using a car, or don’t have one, public transportation in the Village offers opportunities to take commuter and/or Amtrak trains both north and south (to Orange County and LA to the north, San Diego to the south), or use the North County Transit District bus system.

Dining in Carlsbad Village

There is abundant dining in Carlsbad Village, from very casual, where you can walk in off the beach, to more upscale. There are dozens of options depending on the kind of food you like (Italian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vegetarian, Mediterranean, Mexican, seafood, burgers, pizza) and how much you want to spend, plus plenty of eateries that offer outdoor dining.

Know that in the summers, and in general on weekends, restaurants get busier so it might be worth making a reservation, especially for the more popular restaurants, unless you don't mind waiting in line.

Things to do in Carlsbad Village

There are all sorts of things to enjoy in the Village, at various times of the day. You can enjoy time at one of the many day spas, go to a wine tasting (e.g., Witch Creek Winery, Paon Restaurant, Relm Wine Beer Bistro), look for antiques at the Art and Antiques Mall, go to a play at the New Village Arts Theatre, check out the fresh produce at the Farmers Market (Wednesday afternoons on State Street), enjoy one of several arts and crafts fairs during the year, visit the Carlsbad Historic Society at Magee park and tour their rose garden, or go walking or bike riding along the coast road.

You can also buy your mineral water at Alt Karlsbad, take in a movie, take a sculpture class, enjoy yoga on the beach or a beach volleyball game, shop til you drop (dozens of stores with everything you might want or need), buy some goodies for dinner at Vigilucci’s Italian Market, enjoy some chocolate at the Chocolate Bar, test out the craft brews at Pizza Port or 83 Degrees, or take a stroll to enjoy all the public art in the Village. This should get you started!
