If your favorite character dies dies on screen, it is usually a contract issue and a done deal for non renewal. Such is the life in the soaps. However, when the execs "kill off" a popular favorite, often the ratings drop. Then through the miracle of television the clever script writers find a way to bring back the dead. If you are an "ALL MY CHILDREN" fan then you know what I mean.
How often do we as professionals write off a customer who fails to close the deal...exit stage left. Only to discover later in the plot, they have risen from the ashes are haunting your hunting grounds. But this time with another agent. Oooh interesting twist in the storyline.
The problem is we often fail to write a better storyline.
How about Dixie poisoned by a madman- took the big exit on camera...the end right...not so fast. Back as a ghost to help Tad find her long lost daughter. Hmmm sounds a lot like the deal that died with you and comes back from the dead with Agent X this time around.
Soap Operas like life take many twists and turns. Often what we think is the end, is really just another layer of storyline waiting to be revealed. Too often however, we are quick to change channels and never stick around long enought to find out how the story continues.
Take foreclosures for example- you rush to the side of the distressed home owner lamenting over the ever increasing mortgage payments he simply can't make- he begs the bank loss mitgiator for mercy only in the end to lose his home- Then viola' it is magically back on the market, two months later and $90,000 less than the last mortgage was. Interesting twist And...wait for it.... wait for it. BANG contract pending. "Whoop there it is"...
I guess the real question is...if the bank was willing to take $90,000 less for the property why wouldn't they save the trouble and expense involced and just rewrite the loan at the new current Market Value? Sorry I forgot...there be no DRAMA to do it that way... My bad.
We hear and see virutally every storyline in Real Estate- there are the victims, villains and often the plot is revealed in small spoonsize doses. Too often however we change channels, and don't wait for the commercials to be over. Because life moves so much faster than the soaps do... or not.
There are love stories in every soap opera and in every transaction...buyer meets house falls, buyer falls in love with the house. Buys the house lives happily ever after? Sometimes, but not in the soaps.
My customers are ALL MY CHILDREN- it is important to follow the storylines, and stick with them.
You can never discount anyone. If you don't have the time - refer them to someone else. Don't just drop em.
