It's how we sell multi units best. Don't rent to strangers that have meth labs and play metallica round the clock, think families. Your favorite aunt in that first floor back unit, your dad in the front one and you ready to travel so in the third floor crow's nest, the penthouse of your own Trump Towers. One family, multi generations under the roof line! Great post and seeing the habit.

Good morning Larry and Sheila,
With so many expenses rising through the roof it looks like the way to go.
Hopefully we can hold off on this arrangement for a quite a few years.
Make yourself an astonishing day.

Hi Larry and Sheila. My 30+ year old step son is currently living with us. Does that make me an open faced sandwich family?

Sheila: I am seeing this more and more in the communities I service and it is reflective in the new construction being built (many have 2 master bedrooms).

This sounds like a new PC term to pigeon-hole a group to help focus marketing effort. Then again, perhpas there are many who can spell 'multegunerational'

I have never heard the term sandwich generation used for extended families. It actually makes a lot of sense for families to live together if at all possible.

Multi-generational housing is becoming more common. Some families do not have a choice.
Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Call 631-805-4400 (c) I have not heard that expression before but I too am seeing more and more of this
Sadly this trend was not "hip cool and trendy" 20 years ago when Diane & I would have loved to get our parents all together under one roof... They thought they would lose their independence... this is such a good trend...unfortunately some of it is due to the economic trends... never the less the result is good...Endre
I have not heard the term "Sandwich Generation" before, it is appropriate I think. It would make things so much easier for the whole family.
Multi generational homes are gaining in popularity up here too. That, and "Laneway Homes" where a small "granny flat" home is built on the same lot as the main home. I have an apartment in my home for my Mother and that is the main reason we purchased it.
