Every year since 1991 we have had the Spirit of Boise Balloon festival!
It is a wonderful event where lots of balloonists from all over the country come and launch balloons from our own Ann Morrison Park.
I arrived in 1991 and I go every year. From when the children were little to now that they are adults. This year the festival starts on August 31 (tether day - so the kids can go up in tethered balloons) through September 4. You just show up at Ann Morrison Park (or any place that has a good view of the park). You can be amongst the balloons as they take off. The actual goal is to land back at the park but any field or street will do. There is nothing like the sound of the balloon getting fuel above you while you drink your morning coffee n the backyard.
You show up at the park before 7 AM and watch the balloons take off. It is one of the coolest sites. All those balloons taking off and some of them making it back to the park. There s nothing like looking in the sky and seeing them full of balloons. Small kids and old kids just enjoy the experience. There are vendors who will sell you coffee and/or breakfast. There are sponsors. It is just one of the many wonderful reasons to live in the Treasure Valley of Idaho! I think I know what I am going to do on Thursday morning. Come join me at the Spirt of Boise Balloon festival.
On Friday evening they have a balloon glow at the park where the balloons are lit up but not flown at sundown. I think I will go to Synagouge at Katheryn Albertson's park then walk accross the street for the balloon glow. have a great weekend planned watching balloons.
